How can aircraft be tasked to fly to targets at extended range?

Does the addition of drop tanks to an aircraft's weapons' list in the Editor automatically extend its range?

You must be drop tank capable and it must not be grayed out, (can be from supply level etc.) and you must select them. They show up dead center under the aircraft.

Some aircraft, B17s etc. will fly at extended range at reduced load.

Max range is for staging.

Sometimes d/t are greyed out because they're not available yet

Drop tanks do not impact the Maximum Range of an A/C, it only impacts the range on tactical missions.

Actually it does, as can be seen in the pictures provided by zuluhour.

And you need to FIRE the CO. Those are terrible ratings, and if there are no P-40K in the pool Townsville is probably close to the action.

So if I add (by editing) 250 gallon Tokyo tanks to the device list for internal carriage in the bomb bay, this
should add extended range to the medium and heavy bombers that in the real world used them? I would add them as
a filter 02 item for long-range airfield attack.

Note the B-25 and B-26 could bomb Rabaul from Port Moresby and B-26s could attack the Solomons from
New Caledonia. The first B-26 mission was from 5 Apr 1942.

Your talking about doing a mod I take it, better in a different forum.

I think this was discussed a few months ago. The question is are you going to give this capability to all B-25 and B-26 bombers? Because this sort of bombing set up was fairly rare and only used sparingly. If you give it to all bomber units you will be creating a very unrealistic situation. Like giving all bettys and nells the ability to carry torpedoes....Whoops! Wait a minute..[:D]

Yep that CO is awful [;)]

He may not be the best squadron CO but he can delouse ya with the best of them.

jmolyson -> RE: Aircraft Extended Range and Drop Tanks (9/25/2015 9:36:19 PM)

That's the problem. The Tokyo tanks are necessary to accurately reflect
operations up to September 1942, when PM expanded to accommodate more medium bombers.

I also now know that staging through PM won't accurately be modeled
in the game either.[:(]

I guess I'm expecting too much but the game does so many things really well.
