kipanderson -> Quick question regarding power of Values Editor. (9/27/2015 11:43:07 AM)

Hi,

To what extent can the Values Editor overpower the pre-coded terrain settings?

The background to the question is that I am knocking off a quick Yom Kippur War/Chinese Farm scenario.

Specifically.

Would like to use the very light brown, highest level terrain as my base level. And the next, very slightly dark brown as my one level up. Only need one elevated level. Can I do this by forcing level changes in the Values Editor? Will there be a problem when running the game? Can any shipped level terrain be forced to a different level by using the editor?

Can I take a third type of shipped terrain, level tile, and use it as Dunes by giving it poor mobility and poor visibility in the editor?

Thanks.. My reading of the manual is yes to all of above.. but may have got that wrong. There may be some unexpected ambushes in there.. ;).

Thanks again..
Fantastic game..
All the best,
Kip.

Kip,

As you read the answers are yes. Elevation is just a number from 0 to 9 that denoted a significant change in elevation that blocks LOS. You just need to establish what these elevations will be for your map. The same can be said for the mobility and cover values. You can assign yourself a new terrain type like dunes and use whatever values you think work. The only trick comes if you want to use the automatic values tool. Then you are stuck using the colors and assigned values. If you go with hand editing the values, you can create any terrain features and colors you want as long as you have some consistency in value assignment to graphics representation so players know what they are seeing most of the time without looking at mobility and visibility numbers.

I might also suggest dropping a PM to Charles and asking what he did on his Mideast test map.

Capn Darwin,

Perfect.. !

Just what I was hoping for.. Will do nothing silly.. and will be consistent. I like to simplicity of the terrain coding. At this scale does the job very well.

Thanks…
All the best,
Kip.
