I tried using the 3D infobox, but that doesn't seem to show facing.

Don't care much for the 3D views so I rather stick to 2D all the time. I'm probably wired from playing RTS games back in the 90s to expect that terrain I can see clearly also shows any enemies/installations. With the stylized 2D map I don't suffer this disconnect.

Turn off infobox counters (Options - Infobox counters) and you can see the direction units are facing.

I'm with you on preferring 2D pretty much all the time.

At present, the only way to see facing in 2D is to toggle off Options > Infobox Counters, which switches the Info Box unit displays to 3D.

Facing indicators in strictly 2D failed to make 1.00's release deadline. It's high on our to-do list for ME 1.01.

In the meantime, you might consider playing with the Armor Facing Effects optional rule toggled off.

Man, that's weird. I did turn off infobox counters but it didn't show facing. But now that I tried again it's working.

I suppose I was probably mistaken about which unit was selected when I compared in 3D view mode (I'm on my balcony so the 3D highlight doesn't show very strong unless I crank up the brightness to max).

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately, the Info Box counters on/off state doesn't take effect until you select a different unit on map.

Probably that's what happened. Sorry for the confusion.
