Thank you, zakk!

It's the other full time job! Ha!

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/5/2018 9:14:09 PM)

You'll notice the location of the Landing Zones (labelled LZ on the maps), that was the historical landing zone for the ARVN 1st battalion, 11th Regiment after the battle had been underway for awhile. The ARVN 2nd Battalion landed further to the north of the screenshot. The ARVN 8th Para's were dropped 3 hexes to the northwest of the shown landing zone. Both landing received heavy fire during their landings - by helicopter for the 1st, by parachute by the para's. If you play with historical landing zones on, you'll have to attempt to land in the same location. If not, you'll be free to land where you wish.

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/5/2018 9:14:40 PM)

Did you know there was a second battle of Ap Bac on May 2, 1967? Two battalions of the 2nd Infantry Brigade (Riverine), in their first major engagement of the 2nd Brigade, nearly wiped out the D514 VC Main Force battalion. While not a complete walkover, it went significantly better than the 1963 battle. You will also be able to play the 1967 battle in the game.

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/6/2018 6:47:56 PM)

For the Ap Bac 1963 scenario, here is the starting position for the ARVN/2nd battalion, 11th Infantry Regiment at the Tan Heip airfield. There was only ten H-21's to lift the battalion, so had to be completed in company sized lifts.

Note the 5 gunships from the UTT Company.

R_TEAM -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/7/2018 1:33:27 AM)

Very Nice - cant wait to play with it :)
one question....
Is it now possible to have "seperate" playfields for ground and Air units ?
as example, one side ground units dont interfer with the other side air crafts - or to more in detail, one side low high fly aircraft dont interfere with other side high fly aircraft ? [except the one is attacking the other - but from the point of movement ...]
if i remember, this was one of the problems in JTCS with ground/aircrafts to handle all "the same" ....
(and would be an question too for submarines, as submerged submarines should not interfere with see units on the surface ...)

Regards

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/7/2018 2:33:04 AM)

Helicopters and on-map aircraft (most airstrikes are still handled Off map) now operate in 4 different flight zones; on the ground, Nap of the earth, Low and High. Each of these have advantages and disadvantages of being in.

Helicopters can overfly everything, they will risk being shot at, of course.

Helicopters cannot land on an occupied hex.

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/7/2018 2:37:40 AM)

Helicopters will also not be able to fly around forever, you will have to land to refuel/rearm.

budd -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/12/2018 3:22:44 AM)

Are you guys still expecting this to drop in 2018? or is it pushed back.

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/12/2018 5:32:34 AM)

Vietnam is expected in the spring/summer 2019, still building and desinging new content.

We're aiming for a large scenario pack for the 1.00 release, which should provide hundreds of hours of play.

It's variable, depending on the scenario.

Looking forward to this game. Great work guys...

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics. Here is the latest screenshot showing the progress of the Kontum master map. Still a way to go, but getting the key areas mapped. For the Dak To fans, this will be the primary map for all scenarios.

Wow Jason![:D]

The top down graphics are awesome! Love the textures my friend!

budd -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/23/2018 1:23:48 AM)

That is a pretty sweet looking map.

Crossroads -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/23/2018 7:43:28 PM)

Thanks for your feedback. There's been a lot of effort put to 2D maps again, to make them another step forward from the ones in Middle East 2.0. Adding shadows to them to make them a tad more three dimensional, for one [:)]

Big Ivan -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/23/2018 7:55:50 PM)

I see that Crossroads, that's real nice. The shadowing does make it look a lot more 3 dimensional!

Can't wait to see what that will look like down the road in EFIII.

Man that's Good Stuff![:)]

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics. Here is the latest update on the III Corps area map. Still a long ways to go, but getting core areas done. Here is downtown Saigon ready for Tet!

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/25/2018 1:33:26 AM)

And the airport to the north, of course!

BigDuke66 -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/25/2018 4:09:26 AM)

Not sure if it was asked before, but what sources do you use to get that detailed maps?

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/25/2018 4:14:51 AM)

I'm using a variety of sources, depending on the location. The primary sources is the 1:50,000 map sheets available at the Vietnam archive database.

For Saigon, there are a number of additional reference maps that I am using to fill in the details

They are found here: Additional Maps

Impressive work!

Thank you, Andrea!

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics. Here is the latest update on the III Corps area map. This shows the Long Binh area plus the 1:50,000 source material that I am using as the primary reference.

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/28/2018 8:04:06 PM)

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics. I've renamed the Kontum master map to NW II Corps as I have expanded the size to the south to encompass the Ia Drang campaign area. In the screenshot, you'll see the pre-vegetation mountainous terrain that one will have to deal with south of Dak To.

Jason Petho -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/30/2018 6:57:07 PM)

Campaign Series Vietnam: ALPHA graphics. Here is the southwest corner of the NW II Corps master map. The infamous LZ X-Ray at the northeast base of the Chu Pong massif. The map covers quite a large area (as it goes north to Dak To) and will be used for a number of scenarios of various battles that took place in the area in 1965.

budd -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/30/2018 7:10:59 PM)

Just thought of something , will there be a mechanic/abstraction for clearing an area with explosives for an LZ?

With the scenarios so equipped, you will be able to use "Daisycutters" or certain engineers will have jungle clearing capabilities.

budd -> RE: Sneak Peeks, Coming Attractions, Works-In-Progress (11/30/2018 9:19:49 PM)

Thanks for the reply, that looks like some nasty terrain in that above shot. Can we see a 3d view of above terrain, looks pretty claustrophobic, wonder if the 3d conveys that feeling.
