Majick -> Operation Torch? (10/8/2015 6:34:41 PM)

Hi All,

I'm sure someone will put me straight on this or point me to previous threads about it [:)]

I don't see any scenario on this expansion covering the actual invasion of North Africa by the U.S. i.e. Operation Torch?

From what I can see the earliest North African scenario starts on 10 November 1942 with allied troops controlling much of the territory outside Libya and Tunisia.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the variety of the new scenarios and I'm sure there are good reasons why the actual invasion might be a bit of a non-event from a wargaming perspective. It just seems a bit bizarre that the expansion is called Operation Torch and doesn't include the actual invasion which started on 8 November....

Torch to Tunisia (10 Nov 1942 - 26 Jul 1943 - 37 turns)

if memory serves me right, which just come back off hols so foggy atm, you don't do the landing part of the actual invasion on this one, but then again i may be getting it mixed up, as it's been a few weeks since i tested this tbh

You're right Majick, you don't do the actual landings. There were only small engagements with Vichy french, too small for the scope of the game.

The engine is designed to simulate invasions like Sicily, Anzio or Overlord. Torch is more of a political game with a few firefights. That's why you start just after the landings. And there is plenty of fighting left !

I had the same question initially way back in the alpha stages. The Torch campaign starts immediately after the landings - so you do land in the historical locations, but to model all the possible interactions during the landing with the Vichy french forces would have required an entirely separate sub-system for little benefit. By starting just a few days later, that early confusion is avoided. IMHO it would not have added much to include it and would have taken time away from the real meat of the campaign.

Regards,

- Erik

Is there any plan to offer the early north african battles between the Germans and the British up to and including El alamein? Or a campaign that starts with the German forces arrival in north africa?

Thanks!
