rhondabrwn -> Interesting Civil War Resources (10/11/2015 5:04:25 AM)
This has been a good couple of weeks for my American Civil War addiction!
First I found that excellent Amazon Kindle version of "Battles and Leaders of the Civil War" for only $2.99 per volume. As previously posted, I'm very impressed by the quality. I have moved them to my Kindle Fire and can confirm that it works as well as it did on the PC Kindle Reader. Pictures and maps are very clear, a double-tap takes you to an expanded view that you can further expand or shrink or move around with your finger tip. a "return to reading" link takes you back to the text you were reading. Really really impressive!
Now I've discovered this wonderful set of FREE apps from The Civil War Trust site
They are designed to run on mobile devices as you tour a battlefield, GPS showing your location at all times, plus a complete library of information about the battle available at your fingertips. Order of Battle... everything. Did I say "Free"? Sadly they don't work on a Kindle Fire yet, designed for Apple products and Android SmartPhones.
Look into it! The whole site is amazing with great Battle Animations that are the best I've ever seen. Check this one out on the Battle of Shiloh... it makes it crystal clear.
