sfatula -> Limiting Unload of Cargo, Fuel (10/15/2015 11:38:35 PM)

So, say I have a ship with lots of supplies or Fuel, and, I want to only unload say 500 of it. I can't find any way to limit the amount of the unload, other than using a transport that might happen to only be able to carry that much.

Is there another way to do this that I do not know perhaps?

If you start unload, the ship will unload at the maximum rate per day possible. That rate is controlled by the size of the port, the number of ships unloading, the naval support in the port, and the type of ship for amphibious TFs. You can let the ship unload for a day and then stop it the next day if you want. If the port handling limits are high, the ship may be completely unloaded the next day though.

Ok, so, I guess I was assuming correctly then. Yes, environmental factors can limit it, but a big tanker in a big port will unload a lot. Oh well. Will just have to work the tricks out. Thanks!

Don't think in terms of individual ships, think in terms of TFs.

Put 4 ships in TF with do not unload orders. Upon arrival at the locale you only want to unload a portion at, detach one ship into a new TF and unload it. Move the TF to the next locale and do the same.

Most bases are going to need all the supply/fuel that any one ship can deliver and then some.

The bigger the baser the greater the need and thus no real reason to want to be stingy with the delivery.

Hans is obviously talking from the allied perspective.

Allies track supplies by the 100K, Japan tracks by the 1K.

Well, 20k-40k in the first six months steadily ramping up thereafter. [:D]

I do send out single ship TFs to small island bases delivering 3k-6k per trip and set them up as CS convoys so over the course of a few months the base will build up a 30k-40k stockpile.

Any decent sized base I intend to mount air operations from get starting convoys of 4-6 ships of 3k-6k capacity, again set up as CS convoys and I'll add ships to the convoy over time as more ships of the same class/speed become available.

I do the same with tanker convoys for major bases.

I'm an AFB and I track by the millions. In fact I think of a million fuel or supply points as a "unit." "Got nine units at Pearl, twelve at SF. Need to move a couple to Kwaj."

A "unit" is like the Mafia and a thousand dollars: "That stiff owes thirty large. Break his kneecaps."

Sleep well, little JFBs. [8D]

geofflambert -> RE: Limiting Unload of Cargo, Fuel (10/16/2015 5:07:26 PM)

If you have any small xAKLs at the base, unload your ship, Load your xAKL(s) then load your ship back up, then unload the xAKL.

Yes, so, speaking from Japan perspective, Guadalcanal scenario, several bases I want to provide small amounts of FUEL and / or supply to, don't have the resources to provide an entire one turns load. Want to provide to several bases in one trip.

Also, if your ship is in amphibious mode, don't dock it and it will unload more slowly.

Try using very low capacity xAKLs to move the fuel and again use more than one ship in the TF so each can unload at a different stop along the trip.

The DBB mod fills out the roster of ships with "tiny" ships that are well suited to this purpose.
