jacozilla -> Then Angry Hammer - pirate extraordinaire (10/20/2015 2:19:43 PM)

Combination of most annoying and most fun scenario in current game - large ring map and as sometimes happens, pirates got a hold of advanced ship tech.

The Angry Hammer is a capital ship with some ungodly level of tech - I am barely just getting 2nd gen gerax dives and about tech 2-3 of most other stuff.

This pirate ship - just this one- has become the bane of my existence. It must have top end Kaldos drive because it can hyper in and out so fast it will hit - kill - and run before any of my units can dent it.

And even when it stands and fights, I literally watched a full defense fleet of 12 cruisers fire at it trying to defend the base and spaceport the Angry Hammer was reducing to scrap, and it's shields were regenerating faster than my ships could damage it.

I've always gone high max shields line before (duccalos sp?) but now i'm thinking the fast regen one might be way to go at advanced tech. I had the Angry Hammer targeted and I could see as my 12 cruisers were all firing velocity shards that the shields were regenerating faster than being damaged. I believe all 12 cruisers combined were technically stronger than the pirate, but the AI setting for standoff vs stronger, and all weapons vs weaker doesn't take into account fleet strength it seems, just individual ship v ship.

So my pack of cruisers all stayed at stand off, did not close with beams, and just got hammered to scrap one by one.

For 10 galactic years or so, this a-hole pirate ship has been the most hated ship I have ever come across. It has destroyed by itself something like 30+ bases, 100+ ships of mine. It can't be caught yet until I get better warp deny tech, the times I can beat shields down, it runs. i have killed off almost his entire pirate clan, including all bases, yet this one ship still survives.

I've sent in multiple fleets to catch the guy but without better warp deny, whatever tech this thing has is ungodly to allow such easy escape. I will no doubt in time destroy it, but it's been one of those omg moments where pure chance gives this one pirate such an absurdly powerful ship ahead of my or other empires. Both super fun and annoying at same time.

This was observed more than 4 years ago. I did an AAR and came across a Zenox fleet with an alien capital ship that my fleet did not impress much. I did some error of calculation and tried with 175 destroyers. The result? Everything crawled to a snails pace and they did even less damage than the 20 or whatever that had the first attempt.

Holy crap/ That is a picture worth a thousand words. Hard to imagine 175 destroyers losing but I guess in this game its the tech as I just learned, and not numbers.

Bear in mind that it's entirely possible that a particularly large vessel's high shield regeneration is due to having a large number of shield generators rather than to using high-regeneration shield generators. It's also possible that the ship you encountered may be using Meridian Shields instead of either Deucalios or Talassos Shields, if the total shield strength is an integer multiple of 220.

Wrong thread sorry.
