The game menu for Northern Inferno doesn't seem to point to the right path for the update.exe. I get an error message when I press "Check for update" (Play game works though). Not a big deal of course.
I've got the original CMANO release, updated to wargame of the year, and then CNI. I don't know if it could be related but I thought the installer would identify my CMANO install directory since it identified the license key, but it didn't and suggested the wrong path for the install and the start menu icons so I manually corrected to my CMANO directory.
