Hofstadter -> Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 9:22:10 AM)

Is there much in demand for tutorials in this game. I am debating making some comprehensive videos

davidepessach -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 1:11:02 PM)

Please do, also please avoid the usual topics like air warfare and the whole operation husky

davidepessach -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 1:13:55 PM)

For example, I'd like to see how a good player plans a somewhat "simple" operation like operation dragoon. After having landed how you decide where to hit and how, which unit to support with assigned support units and with what kind of units...these kind of issues

Abrslam -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 3:00:14 PM)

Yes please! As a new wargamer I'm in over my head!

jacktimes2 -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 4:39:46 PM)

I would certainly benefit. I second staying away from Husky, though I feel a more in-depth air warfare tutorial, especially in light of the patch changes, could still prove useful. But really anything.

Chuske -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 4:51:14 PM)

I think there is a lot of scope for more tutorials for a game of this depth.

A few ideas off the top of my head:-

- Effective recon when playing FOW on
- Differences in play with EF box on/off
- Basic ground combat, ie how to assess where attacks likely to succeed, how to prepare a successful attack, how to defend. This is still something I'm not great at despite playing for months, I tend to over rely on CV estimates
- Naval patrol via AD vs auto-naval patrols
- Support unit and multi-role unit use, ie what to attach to different HQs and when it is better to use multi-role on-map vs SU
- Logistics (Westwall or Torch maybe good for showing these)
- Effective air strategy such as good altitudes to use, overalapping Ads etc
- General strategy tips for the grand campaign

Any of those would help newbies, so take your pick

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/7/2015 9:42:51 PM)

Yeah. A logistics tutorial based on westwall would be my first choice. Then an in depth air tutorial that would cover loadouts, altitude, fatigue and some of the more nitty gritty stats. I would probably use bulge to the rhine or breakout and persuit to cover those.

I havnt done much with the grand campaign, but yesterday i managed to get major victories on battleground italy rommel attacks, both as the allies, i dont claim to be an expert through, as i dont know the stats of every single unit like really hardcore players

whoofe -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/8/2015 3:39:35 AM)

ground interdiction tutorial would be useful for me. I know how to set the ADs but I seem to get an awfully lot of 0s and 1s.

sea interdiction I have no problem getting 4s and up

HMSWarspite -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/8/2015 9:14:12 AM)

If you are getting any (even low) interdiction from your AD, you are not having trouble setting the AD. You have managed that. What you need is a 'capabilities of a/c and optimum density/frequency' tutorial. What side are you playing, and where/when? In certain parts of Italy, as the Axis, you just wont get Interdiction of any magnitude (in fact nor will WA).

Fire up the D Day scenario. and (as WA) set up the ADs. Can you get a row of '9' map interdiction about 3 hexes deep by say 10 or 12 long along a section of French coast (with a lower set of values around that)? You should be able to, easily, with the forces available. If you can, you have the basics and we just need to discuss optimum forces/weapons/tactics for other times/areas. If you can't, we need to discuss basics.

NI, (again depending on date/side) you should be able to get 9 as well... 4 is a minimum requiement as it takes a major effort by the opposition to cancel your control (less than 4 means you can't really be sure the enemy can't challenge)

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/8/2015 9:27:32 AM)

Interdiction is basically a combination of recon and overlapping interdiction directives with a small area, the higher the area, the less concentrated the bombs will be. Problem is, it takes about 3 or 4 ADS to get up to a interdiction level above 3. Its a bit painful

Chuske -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/8/2015 9:29:24 AM)

I think we could almost design a short and simple newbie training course for WitW, based around a few simple exercises like the interdiction one suggested by HMSWarspite. At the moment I'm writing some game mechanics tutorials in the War Room section of the forum to help newbies grasp some of the mechanics I see asked often in these forums. So with those and the Player Handbook then the new player would be ready move onto exercises in the shorter scenarios which in turn would get him ready for campaign play.

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/8/2015 10:07:33 AM)

Actually thats a pretty good idea, a video based on the players handbook

Not the way I do it, it doesn't. A single AD with 10 sqds of Tiffies (rocket armed), escorts (5 sqds usually ample by 1944), and a range '2', 7 days a week, auto pretty much all else, works fine in my book (as in 9's all round pretty much). I even set them to 'units' as well as 'interdiction'. I do tend to overlap adjacent ADs by one hex row to be certain. P47s also work. Other aircraft are available. ;)

thanks, always good to have more help and tutorials imo for newer or for a brush up etc, depending on your skill set, mines low so it's helpful as ever and good to see everyone helping others again...

Actually that wasn't what I was thinking but your interpretation of it sounds very good to me too.

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/8/2015 10:28:33 PM)

Tonight i am going to go through an indepth logistics tutorial, cover supply, rails, depots and priority management of supplies in westwall. Then a small invasion guide in op dragoon. A basic tutorial showing how to set up air directives and their effects. Then an advanced one showing altitudes, flak, and air base managment

schascha -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/9/2015 7:14:49 AM)

It will be great [&o][&o][&o][&o]

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/9/2015 8:23:27 AM)

Video is made. Uploading now. Will make a new thread and put it in the war room when its done.

davidepessach -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/9/2015 3:19:09 PM)

Yay!! Operation Dragoon is where I'm at right now!!!
Thanks a lot!

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/12/2015 4:13:21 AM)

Alright, will make the dragoon tutorial tonight. Going to cover naval and airborne operations

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/12/2015 10:36:27 AM)

Okay, operation dragoon tutorial placed in the war room, are there any requests?

davidepessach -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/12/2015 5:33:10 PM)

Hi Hofstadter, thanks a lot for your video. Unfortunately the concepts you explained are quite easy to grasp as they are well explained in the manual.
I was more curious in watching the actual build up of a strategy. In fact I'm wondering if isolating Marseille and pounding it with air attacks would make it easier for infantry division to occupy it. That way tanks can used to spearhed north and maybe gain at least one victory point up north.

Ah, nice point on taking Nice from the start, that was very instructive.

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/12/2015 7:59:57 PM)

Yeah i made a note on how simple the concepts were, i just didnt want to go through the entire process again when i snagged a major victory earlier on. Its why i showed my end game. toulon has to be taken as soon as possible, once the majority of the weak blocking forces are out of the way and you have a couple of units on avignon, absolutely start pounding and trying to get marseilles and toulon, because the germans have a few incredibly strong armored units coming down that you wont be able to get by, the best you can hope against them is by holding avignon against them. For marseilles i just flooded my units with engineers and armor in a hope to reduce the fortification level of the city.

Next i am going to go through strategy tips for the grand campaign, for this ill read a couple of aars to watch for common moves and read the tips bit at the end of the manual

where were/are the tutorials being uploaded too ? You Tube ?

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/13/2015 8:07:14 AM)

Yeah. You can find my logistics and dragoon tutorial in the war room

I dont know if ill do a campaign tips one, its a but hge for me right now

Hofstadter -> RE: Tutorial Demand (11/16/2015 9:50:43 PM)

Actually my next tutorial is going to cover literally everything there is to do in ground combat. Will cover how cv is modified and maximizing cv for single units.
