Mgellis -> Austin Goes to Algeria, 1996 -- new beta for testing (11/15/2015 7:57:18 PM)

A new beta for testing...a surface group consisting of LPD 4 Austin and DDG 61 Ramage must conduct a rescue mission near Algerian waters. However, tensions have increased between Algeria and the US, and Algeria is convinced the rescue mission is simply a cover for covert operations.

As always, please let me know what you think. How is the gameplay? How are the Events working? Do any of the orders or other messages need to be edited? All suggestions and comments are welcome. Thanks!

So far, so good. Completed the extraction from the life raft and the surface group is en-route to the requested coordinates.
Lots of contacts to be worried about. Pesky Foxbat keeps coming towards the surface group at military throttle and took a nice pass directly overhead.
CH-46 landed safely without the Foxbat getting tied up with the pair of Eagles.
I'll let you know in a bit how this ends.

Edited: Finished with Triumph and a score of 400. Never fired a shot even as the MiG-25 came waaay to close to the surface group.
A good scenario.

Steve

Pretty peaceful. I launched whatever helos I had ready, set up a search pattern, found the raft, evacuated it and turned back. No shots fired. Score 400 Triumph.

I have one question though: where is the sub? :)

Do you mean an American sub or an Algerian one?

AlexGGGG -> RE: Austin Goes to Algeria, 1996 -- new beta for testing (11/17/2015 10:11:33 AM)

Algerian, or Russian maybe :)

Based on playing your previous scenarios, I was definitely expecting a sub ambush on the way to the exit point (after retrieving the raft). In most all of your scenarios, there is a sub ambush of one sort or another :)

So I wonder if I evaded it, or if there is no sub this time?

Other comments or suggestions? (Has anyone had the scenario go hot on you? Sounds like people are playing smart and getting out without causing trouble, but I'm interested to see how people respond to Algerian hostilities.) Or is this ready for the Community Scenario Pack? Thanks.

I really enjoyed the scenario.
Anyway, my Sea Knight got a bit too close to the Algerian boats (well, at least in their minds). However, it wasn't a very good day for them either. I ended up with a major victory (with 1 Sea Knight and F-15 dead) and the majority of the Algerian forces killed. It seems to me that there should be a warning if you get close to the SAG, as I was well into international waters, unless you want the scenario to tend to go hot.

Anyway, since you mentioned wanting to know how the people respond to the Algerian hostilities:
After they shot down my Sea Knight, I used up my harpoons and a few SMs to kill their SAG. After that I TLAM'ed their Radar and SAM sites as well as a few of their hangars.

Anyway, thanks for releasing this, it was fun even if a bit easy.

Would you recommend dropping the difficulty rating to 2?

qwerty2316 -> RE: Austin Goes to Algeria, 1996 -- new beta for testing (11/21/2015 11:36:12 PM)

Heh, I don't usually pay attention to difficulty ratings.

Overall I liked how it worked out. However, an extra level of complexity such as ASW (even if the subs never attack) would be welcome. Might not make it more difficult overall, but as it stands the only real objective is to fly the helicopters around until they find the raft.

Just uploaded version 2. No major changes but I tweaked a few things that I hope will make it a little more interesting/challenging.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

With the latest version, I have identified a life raft (side Neutrals - is it the correct or some fake life raft?) but as it now travels at 1kt, I can't seem to be able to hover over it. And I got it hot this time, too bad the score is not awarded for MiG kills.

Ah, good catch. I will fix that. Perhaps the raft will move for a while and then stop but it will stop eventually so you can hover.

Played through just fine this time.
