WildCatNL -> Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/17/2015 6:58:10 PM)

For those of you who would like to see your Germany Reforged maps in a different look, we now have the following alternative map graphics available for download from the OTS web site. (OTS website is no longer functional!).

NOTE: Most of these files are hosted on the Matrix Files Site. See this link for more info: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4339516

See the graphic overview below, for the Rasdorf - Point Alpha - Geisa area northeast of Fulda:
- A. Default version, as included in the DLC.
- B. [MapsCustom/germany_reforged___summer___alternative_map_graphics.zip]"Summer" version, with 1km hex grid, greenish, lighter is higher, and topo lines and shades blended in for northern Fulda corridor maps, 89MB
- C. [MapsCustom/germany_reforged___inverted_summer___alternative_map_graphics.zip]"Inverted Summer" version, 1km hex grid, light greenish, darker is higher, 80MB
- D. [Planning/germany_reforged___notes___alternative_map_graphics.zip]"Planning Map" version, styled after paper maps, topo lines and relief blended in for the northern Fulda corridor maps, 85MB
- E. [MapsCustom/germany_reforged___summer_hex___alternative_map_graphics.zip]"Summer Hex" version, greenish, lighter is higher with hex grid, 84MB

Notes
These alternative map graphics need the corresponding .fp9 map data files from the Germany Reforged DLC in order to be used in the game.

The planning maps (D) are primarily meant for printing, so you can prepare and track your battles in off-line, proper "Cold War" style.
I've kept them in .png format for those who like to record some screen shots of their (completed) battles against these backdrops.

The "Summer" (B) and planning maps (D) feature topo lines (contour lines) and relief shading solely for the northern Fulda corridor maps (Eiterfeld, Rasdorf, Steinbach) since we lack elevation data for the original (and fictitious) Flashpoint Germany maps.

Installation
Extract all 7 .png files into the Custom folder for the FPRS maps.
This folder is typically located at:
c:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm\Modules\FPRS\Maps\Custom

or (when installed from Steam):
c:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm\Modules\FPRS\Maps\Custom

Removal
Delete these 7 .png files from the Custom folder. Alternatively,
overwrite them with other map graphics.

Enjoy,

William
p.s. corrections and feedback on the maps are more than welcome!

Well, aside from the work needed to create the .FP9s... I think you just gave people who don't have Reforged, the maps for free.

Tazak -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/17/2015 8:27:03 PM)

I like version B, as always stunning work William on all the variants [&o]

pekische -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/17/2015 8:48:43 PM)

I agree, version B is awesome!

solops -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/17/2015 9:01:28 PM)

B version is super. That is what I want as the default.

Phoenix100 -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/18/2015 12:55:25 PM)

Thanks William! Great stuff. I love version B but the map version, for me is superb. Version D is just what I want. I'm not sure if I can use it in game though? Is it just a planning map? How do I get to use it as my map?

OK. I can use them, I see. The new big map with contours and shading is a really beautiful work of art, William. I wish all the maps were like that. With one caveat - I think the trees should be all green (a very light green) and not with white highlighting. At the moment they look predominantly white to me (with some slight green shading) and it makes all the maps look like winter landscapes. As they are they would be perfect for that, in fact - Winter versions. But though a summer version would still have the paper white background the trees would need not to look like they have snow in them, I think. Just my very humble suggestion.

To me D is the best alternative other than the original map.

Is the change from a hexagonal pattern 500 meters center to center in all directions to a square 1 kilometer grid purely cosmetic or does it affect the horizontal pathing of a unit in the game such as in the image below?

Stimpak -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/19/2015 12:11:46 AM)

It's cosmetic, like any map background art.

It's just there to help you gauge distance from side-to-side.

WildCatNL -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/19/2015 5:39:14 PM)

Thanks for the feedback. Good to see the "topo" experiments are appreciated. Southern Storm will have more of this.

Map graphics are a matter of taste. Probably there is an audience for each of these variants. Even at OTS HQ, opinions are divided on this.
Then again, the game was made "open" for this reason. You can use the graphics you like for your map.

I'm glad you tried - that's why I didn't convert them to .jpg.
I understand your issue with the green. These maps evolved from pure gray scale maps designed for printing and notes taking. Then I discovered I could add a (light) touch of color without reducing the readability of any handwriting on top of the paper. Darker green will interfere.

Hey....I just bought Red Storm - Player's Edition. Will these maps work for this version of the game?

Tom

CapnDarwin -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/27/2016 6:46:36 PM)

Tom the maps in question are for the Germany Reforged DLC. William does have some alternate maps on our website. There are also updated Red Storm maps in the 11.2 Beta file that will be part of the full up 2.0.11 update when it is ready.

tbridges -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/27/2016 8:28:39 PM)

Thanks Cap...when can we expect to see the full update?

Tom

gandhi2 -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (5/8/2017 10:10:34 AM)

Hi All,

at first I want to say hello and thank your for this great game :)
As the website is under construction, are there any alternative ways to get the zip files?

Thank you.

Greets,
Tobias

WildCatNL -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (5/8/2017 9:17:11 PM)

grab -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/5/2017 5:18:04 PM)

Are there any working links to download the planning map version please?

VegasOZ -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/5/2017 10:07:38 PM)

Are the Links to download these variations broken? How can they be obtained?

Thanks

CapnDarwin -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/6/2017 3:34:10 AM)

William has a link to the D version a few posts up from here.

rvseydlitz -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/6/2017 8:28:06 AM)

None of these links work...neither from the top, nor from the post a few above this.
Is there any "working" links? Thank you.

CapnDarwin -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/6/2017 11:55:12 AM)

Sorry, I thought those two were. At this time there are no other links with the loss of our website a number of months ago. Let me see what we can do to at least get these files somewhere that can be downloaded. May take a number of days with efforts right now centered on our presence at Origins next week.

WildCatNL -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/6/2017 6:00:12 PM)

Just added 'www.' to the URLs in the May 8, 2017 post, and work (again).

William

CapnDarwin -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/6/2017 6:42:47 PM)

We are looking at getting these files and hopefully some of the other mod files up on the Matrix content system in the next few days.[8D]

grab -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/7/2017 2:44:24 PM)

Thank you W1LL14m

verdugo94 -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/21/2017 4:30:54 PM)

Could you please reupload this? :)

CapnDarwin -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/21/2017 5:11:10 PM)

Being back from Origins, I can start to look back into getting some of this uploaded to Matrix over the next couple weeks. As soon as stuff is up I will let you know.

verdugo94 -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (6/22/2017 9:23:38 AM)

Thanks you!

Vulcan54 -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (2/14/2018 11:12:50 AM)

The links don't work any more. Please could you re-post them?

CapnDarwin -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (2/14/2018 12:33:35 PM)

Vulcan54, see this info here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4339516

That should get you going.

bootlegger267 -> RE: Germany Reforged alternative map graphics (11/1/2019 1:25:39 PM)

Anyone know where William's maps (the ones at the start of this thread) went? I used to have them and I really liked the planning maps

Thanks in advance.....

Bootlegger
