101Man -> Ship Repair During Scenarios (11/21/2015 9:19:24 PM)

Hey there,

I received great help with my last thread, so here's a new one...

I'm having fun as the Allies in the Guadalcanal Scenario. Easy setting, no FoW, etc., so I can learn the basics.
Ship Repair - I have several ships undergoing Readiness and Pierside repair in Noumea. I hover my cursor over the days required and a pop-up tells me certain repairs cannot be performed either readiness or pierside. For the scenario, can I send the damaged ships to Sydney (largest port in the scenario) for major work, or is out of the scope of a scenario, since I cannot get to Pearl or the West Coast.

Thanks again

I'm also currently playing the Guadalcanal scenario and I believe any heavily damaged ships have to be repaired in Sydney. Some low levels of major damage can be repaired in Noumea but anything that needs a shipyard has to go to Sydney I believe. Be careful though. The Japanese AI tends to plant a sub or two in the area between Sydney and Brisbane. I lost the Hornet after she was damaged and I was trying to get to Sydney

I am going to Sydney...and yes I know about the enemy subs there as I am playing with no Fog of War, just so I can understand the basics.

Thanks.

Excellent tips are in Ship Repair 101 Guide

Thank you for this link...this helps a lot.

On another note, I am working on the Alutian campaign.

You usually will see two numbers for flotation damage after getting hit hard. The larger number represents total flotation damage and it can be repaired in a safe small port until you reach the second number with is permanent damage and is not repairable outside of a shipyard or dry dock. Engine repair always has to be done in a ship yard. For a heavily damaged ship, get all the temporary system and flotation damage down as far as you can. Then move the ship at "cruise" speed to the nearest yard. Basically an American ship with 60 flotation damage will be safe to move if the system damage is zero. I have moved them with even higher but their is a risk. Good crews help. In small ports AR type ships and Naval support are a big help. In the campaign Brisbane has a small yard. This works for DDs, subs and other smaller ships. Big ships go to Sidney.
