poodlebrain -> Pearl Harbor Captured, Should There Be Coastwatchers? (11/23/2015 5:41:21 PM)

I've been reading a couple AARs from games in which the Japanese have captured and occupied Pearl Harbor and the other Hawaiian bases. I was thinking that the Allies would have some sort of intelligence gathering capability remaining as the Japanese occupation could not suppress all partisan activity of civilians loyal to the U.S. and/or military personnel who escaped capture. Should the game provide for a certain minimum detection level at these bases?

I believe that Michael gets a bunch of intel from Japanese occupied Hawaii in our game.

Good idea. Should be in "Creole"

"Bra, 500 buddha-head holoholo makai lanai"

Somebody will also have to do all of the fishing to supply all of the sushi restaurants that would spring up, and the civilian population would have to be fed somehow. Wouldn't there have to be some sort of fishing fleet despite the occupation? How hard would it be for some of those boats to rendezvous with submarines to exchange information, get radios and other materials/personnel to do intelligence gathering?

Knowledge of what was happening at a large base that close to the Continental U.S. would have been an imperative. It is absurd to think the U.S. would have been unaware of major shipping activity, troop movements or facility building happening in Hawaii.

Pearl is about half-way to Tokyo. [:)] I've known Americans who traveled to Socal and wondered why they couldn't see Hawaii from the top of the hills.

To the OP's question, I thought coastwatchers were restricted in the EXE to just the Solomons and areas adjacent?

I think they're the bases that start under "Australian" control, maybe? Except for Nauru and Ocean Islands. Which is basically the Solomons, New Britain/New Ireland, and the SE tip of New Guinea.

Speculation is no substitute for what is clearly stated to be the situation in the manual under coast watchers.

Nor is there any need to speculate when the results are provided in both the game's Op and SigInt reports.

I went back to the manual and it was as if I'd never seen that section. [:'(] Much more substantial coastwatcher code than I thought.
