giffin -> COH Storm Of Steel No Luck Playing (11/26/2015 7:14:58 PM)

I just bought & Installed the COH Storm Of Steel full game & current patch and still wont run. I tried the Demo also and couldn't get that to run. I have updated everything including Direct X. Message comes up "The Character (0x009) is not Available in this sprite Font. ? Same thing everyone else sees in these forums at start up with Windows 7. Not sure If I should give up after many hours of working on this game and just ask for money back?

Happy Thanksgiving to support group if you are in the room.

coopman -> RE: COH Storm Of Steel No Luck Playing (12/20/2015 12:00:16 AM)

The character ' ' (0x00009) is not available in this SpriteFont...blah...blah...blah a bunch of other text for about half a page.

as character means or implies language, what is your pc and keyboard set to?

as some languages and keyboard letters won't be used in the game, as not all games support all keyboard and language codes, a character (keyboard and character / language code change to another working one will prove if it works for you, then you will know for sure that, that was the problem code and error.

I am in Louisiana, USA, if that helps any. I'm using a Dell laptop.

Try to start the game after discottening the computer from the LAN (and Internet) ! I had the same problem with the demo and by this way I was able to bypass it. It works (for me) both on windows 7 and windows 8.1
I have not tried to reconnect the computer to my LAN (and internet) after the succesfull start of the game.[:'(]

add the exe of the game to your Anti Virus and firewall program, to make sure check the logs of these to see if it was one of them which was to blame.

That usually means a 3rd party program, like an Internet security programs, is interfering with the game or update installation.

then re try

mugo -> RE: COH Storm Of Steel No Luck Playing (1/6/2016 7:49:36 AM)

The exe was allowed to connect to any PC (local and internet) by the firewall already. I tried to modify the rule of the firewall by blocking any connection (for the game exe) but the game did not start (usual error). I tried also to deactivate completely firewall and antivirus with the same result (fault after starting regarding the character not available). By disconnecting the lan cable from the router the demo game starts and works. Very strange !

That error in the demo was introduced when our web hosting company, Yahoo, decided to stop supporting the IE6.0 standard, and instead of returning a little bit of text started sending a page-long explanation about why they stopped supporting that standard. Their page-full-of-text causes the demo to crash. Pulling your LAN cable out stops you from getting the text from Yahoo and allows the demo to work. We've corrected this error with a patch to the main game, but as the demo is old (I didn't even know it was still available) we never did correct the problem with the demo.
