zakblood -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/27/2015 9:11:40 PM)

see how long you keep it now, as is that your main target? or do you still need Moscow? by the end of jan / feb 42?

great play all the same[&o][&o][&o]

a race to one place is a risky move as i see some wide open spaces in your lines of supply now and plenty of Russians in your rear, only takes a good push in winter to break out and you loose supply and most of your movement, will be good to see if you are the first to Victory, look forward to seeing the ending and how you go on, a AAR would be great, same as your metric results, remember please post you're pdf file once you have finished, so all can see how you did it[&o][&o][&o]

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/27/2015 9:13:32 PM)

It was my main target. Well....Hitler's, but I went along with it. Yeah I keep it !

Funny thing is the Finns surrendered in July.

zakblood -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/27/2015 9:17:22 PM)

the problem with Hitler, is as soon as you do one thing, he then wants something else, so may end up asking for something else[:D][;)]

well you have done a lot better than me, then again im the worst layer tbh, so no big complement in that, but the beta testers as a whole were some very good players, i was the worst by a long way so would love to see how you do, so please keep posting so we all can see how you get on, bed time for me now, so may see the rest tomorrow, good luck[&o][&o][&o]

Hi NotOneStepBack,

Well done!

However as Zak has pointed out you're in a very precarious position and holding Leningrad is looking like a man sized challenge.

4th Panzergruppe is blowing in the breeze there.

We'd appreciate it if you could let us know how things progress as we're interested to see how the AI handles the situation from this point onwards.

With regards to Finland you'll notice some big white 'S' on the map. That's 'S' for surrender if a Soviet unit reaches them and threatens Helsinki.

Normal AI level?

Cheers,
Cameron

My relationship with the fuhrer.

Will do. I'm rushing the 18th army to support them. It is on normal difficulty. It seems like it the AI becomes focused on certain points and I simply go around them.

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/27/2015 10:36:22 PM)

August 21, and I've kept Leningrad and the rail that leads to it open. Kiev fell. The AI is being stubborn as hell at the centre, still fighting towards Smolensk.

That's not too much of a surprise- most of the reinforcement armies go to that zone, particularly early on.

misesfan -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/27/2015 11:17:40 PM)

I am surprised that 4 Panzergruppe isnt OOS because that truck line from Riga to Narva is about 15 hexes. I think that to maintain the position, either trucks will need to be stripped from other theaters or that the rail repair dudes will need to work overtime (again at the cost of other theaters.) It will be interesting to see what happens in a few turns, because I do see a whole bunch of point where the entire panzergruppen can be cut off. Which by the way, has happened to me many times as well, so far playing the game. ;)

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/27/2015 11:30:28 PM)

This is my first full game, I've been pretty reckless in general just to see if the AI can cope. I moved the FSB in the north, and I think I'm gonna hold it.

Gargoyl -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 12:40:14 AM)

You say it's your first play? Looking pretty darn good. Of course, if you're anything like I am, I always seem to have beginner's luck and do my best on my first play, which I never seem able to quite duplicate on replay ;) At any rate, I finally have time to play DC:B myself starting today. I'll start as paranoid-in-chief Stalin just to see how the German AI plays out. I hope you keep us posted on your drive as autumn unfolds.

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 2:24:03 AM)

It's my first game yes, but I played WITE for years and I was a beta tester for WITW.

zakblood -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 2:31:14 AM)

from a look at your shots, you are doing as well or as anyone so far has done and got so far and in some way better than i've seen, if you can keep it up you have a better chance than i've ever had in 20/30 plays, if i can be cheeky i'd love a save to be able to see fully how you're doing, pm if you'd like, or not it doesn't matter, but you skill is way better than mine, i've always commented on my lack of skill, i'm told i am a good tester of games, but as a player i'm average at best, as the skills needed to test are always a good to high ability to play, just for a eye for looking and finding stuff, so to be able to see how and play on from some a good point would better my understand of maybe why i's such a average player, maybe you take more risks than me? or leave the flanks more open, i'm uber careful and i've been almost wiped out a few times and lost more than a few HQ's as the Germans[&o][&o][&o]

AAR link above if wanted ^^

thanks all the same for the screenshot and comments, looking really good and would love you to do a AAR in the section to help maybe not just me but others as well, would be the first and really helpful if you have the time, doesn't have to be this play, or today, any time no rush[&o][&o][&o]

your knowledge of the front is very high btw

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 3:52:19 AM)

September 10th

I had a mud turn and switched to defensive posture, put the luftwaffe to support AGN 4th PGz gruppe and moved the siege artillery to Leningrad. No attacks on AGN at all.

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 3:53:13 AM)

In the center it is slow going and I might be able to get Smolensk, but Moscow is looking improbable. It probably doesn't matter I may just hold Lgrad.

Still fluid a little bit in the south and the Romanians are pushing. I'm about to stage a breakthrough to Kursk hopefully.

i see some yellow in supply, how you going for PP's?

[image]local://upfiles/43185/3F0769CAB332461A8584B3ADB8BDC9B7.jpg[/image]

with looking at you're relationships with some of the commanders of certain part of the game, you have managed to get further and do more, with a worst relationship, which would have given you a negative score with less help as well so is even more of a achievhement imo[&o][&o][&o]

i'm so very impressed and also embarrassed to say it, you win me hands down and i shouldn't be offering you advice, it should be the other way around [X(][&o][&o][&o]

ok ty, will have a look now[&o]

[image]local://upfiles/43185/876C7EA01D8B4D54BAAD09625657A13E.jpg[/image]

when the game is done, you get a pdf to print out, it lists everything, this is a basic one for now updated each turn, the full one at end of play will show you where and what you did in the whole campaign, with it you can learn where you went right, and also where you went or if you did wrong, then improve the way you play if needed, please keep the copy and if you like share it[&o][&o][&o]

as it will be a great way for others to see how well someone else is doing and how they did it also, then for you, for added replay ability you can alter the game slightly and have another go with a different challenge, and see how that impacts you're distances and relationships and also the ability to get the missions and objectives done[&o]

from this document, to get a better civil and ethics score higher will help in the overall promotion prospects box, which doesn't matter, as score is just for personal gains / means etc, and matters litter if you get the objectives and win...

Pretty good on PP's. If you support the fuhrer you get a much easier life in general. Now that AGN is basically on defensive mode and it is still September I'm trying to redirect all resources I can south. I don't care what von leeb thinks now, I will improve relations with von rundstedt.

zakblood -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 4:29:41 AM)

last one as you know more than me with your play style anyway but will help others understand the game more

[image]local://upfiles/43185/532244B1E3A24789888AAA8F088C370F.jpg[/image]

having the 3 negative scores with 3 commanders gives a - on some scores in the game, but it doesn't seem to have impacted you that much so far[&o]

but with a better management helped you even more, not that you need it, just saying, as i couldn't have done what you have either so will just sit back and watch and learn for the master[&o][&o][&o]

NotOneStepBack -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 4:36:29 AM)

Like I said though, I'm quite inexperienced with this game, I just know the east front from prior games. I'm pushing it as much as I can. My panzers are starting to sputter out, but it is what it is. I haven't read the manual yet, but hopefully I can get a better understanding of logstics from it later.

zakblood -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 4:39:08 AM)

looks like you don't need it, you seem to be doing better than most if not all the testers so far, with much better results, so keep going and maybe you will be writing your own manual on how to play the game for the rest of us to read, as you are doing very well, hope it continues for you, but also glad you are enjoying it as well which is always good to hear[;)]

my only piece of advice is watch the centre, if that front falls, it brings down everything as the flanks of both AGN and south will be wide open, and i'm sure the depth of the Russian bear is waiting in the centre for you, protection Moscow as it seems to have chosen that over Leningrad, when the bear turns east, game turns a lot harder quicker, if it's in mud or snow for that matter, they can move a lot faster and further than you can, so the table gets turned[&o]

Franciscus -> RE: Luck or stupid AI? (11/28/2015 7:22:19 AM)

...
Not very impressed, I am afraid...

It seems that:
- as far as RPG goes, it seems that all you have to do is keep Hitler happy, following his directives. What your generals in the field think of you does not seem that relevant (just chrome ?)
- as to the real wargame, you play a grinding game with AGC, and can be reckless in the North and South. The AI seems not that good - was it not possible to cut off the germans in Leningrad ?

Replayability does not seem that great either, unless you're interested in the RPG "game" (note: I do like good RPG games!)

Still waiting on the fence, following with interest "real-life" experiences like this one. Let's see what the Russians are still able to do...

Thanks for posting
