RogerJNeilson -> Mislaid my copy of WITP AE (12/2/2015 9:39:50 PM)

I have a spare laptop which I have just put Windows 10 on, no way do I want to just upgrade on my desktop with all my WITPAE games on so want to just check it all works fine. However out of the 5 different external hard drives I have I cannot find the original install download.

No problem, the game is registered, so I go to the Members area, I find the game, and now I haven't a clue how to get it to download, the only thing listed is a Press Copy that just takes me to the page.

Now I know that as I have the game registered, and I have my serial I should be able to download the installer - but am now scratching my head wondering where I get it?

Any pointers guys?

Roger

This is an 'update' but is it also an install of the game? I just need to install the game so I can then copy across my proper games and check all works fine.

Looks like my installers were on the one Hard drive that is no longer working... Sigh!

Ok I downloaded that and it has installed onto my spare laptop. So clicking autorun I get an error message 'Unable to find PW data!!!'

Now this may be no biggie as I'm simply installing it so windows knows AE is installed and then I'll copy my proper games across anyway, but its a bit odd.

Hi Roger,

Not sure but I don't think an update of the game will work as an original install. Did you read this page:

http://www.matrixgames.com/support/faq.asp?id=8

It's specifying how to get the original game.

Good luck

Ok, current state of play. The update seemed to be an install, good enough anyway to allow me to copy one of my full games across and it is now on the laptop. It seems happy to be there, but when I start it I am getting a Fatal error: 200

I seem to recall there is an explanation/fix for this, but frankly its late here in the UK so I am going to come back to it in a few hours time when I have had some zzzzz

All this simply because I don't trust Windows to do a simple update without possibly screwing my games.....

I faced a similar challenge back in September. I purchased the game in 2009 but mangled my install when I got a new computer over the summer. Also managed to loose my backups of the installer.
I found the link BPRE mentions and e-mailed the Help Desk a couple of times. Never got a reply.

I did a quick search and "discovered" an installer in the seedier parts of the Internet and downloaded it. Installed with my key, did all the upgrades and am back in action.

Never did get a reply.

Hope you have better luck.

Best way would be to send an E-Mail to Matrix support. They are always quick, friendly and customer orientated and will provide you with a dowload link.At least thats what they did with me, when in my chaotic circumstances an installer was missing.

I now managed to set up google chrome (Edit: drive)and parked all my installers there, so no more need to search on various external drives.

Indeed ticket with Matrix for this. The installers (all of them) are on a networked drive which no longer will talk to my main desktop as the OS is no longer compatible with the WD Drive (Crazy isn't it?) Probably a way to pull the stuff off there but life's too short!

Install I did is throwing up a Fatal error: 200 which suggests that the install has not put the right stuff in the registry - so waiting for a download link from matrix.

Al this because I'm not prepared to upgrade my main desktop with Win 10 and run the tiny risk of the games getting screwed - good old Windows.
