Thrashman -> Why do planes go into reserve? (3/27/2003 10:04:02 PM)

I have several bomber groups including Marauders and B-17's that always, no matter what the support and AF size is, place close to half of the group into reserve. This is on a size 9 AF. Why is this and how do I fix it?

Thanks

If you have more planes than the squadron limit, the extra go into reserve.

Mr.Frag -> (3/28/2003 1:34:31 AM)

(a) more planes then squadron size limit
(b) more planes then pilots
(c) more planes then base can support

Fix 'em all, not just 1 or 2.

Med/Hvy bomber = 16 planes.

You say that 8 are being put into reserve at a size 9 airfield with a ENG base unit providing support and supplies at the base?

Never ever heard that complaint before. Did you withdraw or disband units?

Have you suffered a lot of crew losses? That could be a factor as well.

Well right there is the problem then. I was not aware of a squadron limit. Yeah I originally disbanded some units trying to make one larger unit.:eek: Now I have to go and try to fix it if I can.

Thanks for the help!

You can't fix it if you've already disbanded the airgroups. Slowly, the reserve aircraft will go into the pool and fill out other squadrons.

Well now that's a bummer. Now I have about 14 planes and crews sitting around drinking beer for the rest of the war. Oh well it's my first battle with this game and I am doing pretty good. Major battle over Gilli Gilli right now and those darn japs just can't get me out of there. Although my guys may end up starving to death, can't get any supplies in there except by plane.

Mr.Frag -> (4/1/2003 12:36:13 AM)

It is self fixing over time.

The units you disbanded/withdrew will come back (look at your aircraft reinforcements panel - hit your I key).

The unit with the extra planes will either transfer them back into the pool or use them to replace losses.

The issue of how long you have to wait to get the original units back is a function of whether you disbanded them or withdrew them, as there are different times required to rebuild just the planes or rebuild the planes and pilots.

i have several CV air squadrons that have been depleted down to 5 planes or so. for eg. ready aircraft 5. how do i build them back up? do i have to withdraw or disband them?

Mr.Frag -> (4/29/2003 5:35:16 AM)

As long as you take your CV's back to a port in the rear area and leave them parked for a turn, they will draw replacement planes if they are available in the pool (hit your I key, then select Aircraft Replacements).

Be aware that large numbers of aircraft getting pulled at once may result in the new pilots coming in with very low skills that will simply result in them crashing more planes and killing themselves so for seriously depleted air wings, you may have to spend time letting them do nothing.

Pilots will eventually get to about 60 skill by doing NOTHING at all.
