13th August 1941 Turn 14 Army Group North Re-reading the Aide de Camp and the panzergruppe log it looks like this is correct. All the panzers are in a bad way, but 4th panzergruppe is better than the other three and its average mileage is lower - reflecting the previous R+R. I notice that the three armies of AGN are set to the Defensive and the Finnish South East Army is set to Blitzkrieg [8\|]. I amend to Sustained and Defensive accordingly but this has cost in terms of pp... [:@] If I had a brain I would be dangerous. Anyway.... to the war. 16th Army make a push to the south and east of Ostrov, while 18th Army double back and attack from the west. 4th Panzergruppe continue their attack on Tallinn and this time make it stick. 13th August 1941 Turn 14 Army Group Centre The entire army group is on a Sustained posture which is what I want. 9th Army continue to push against the Soviet forces north of Smolensk, but for 3rd Panzergruppe, its a case of licking wounds. South of the city the mud puts paid to any major movement by 2nd Panzergruppe, but Guderian and his 'infantry buddy' von Kluge. 13th August 1941 Turn 14 Army Group South NO!!!!!!!!!!! How to lose the game in one turn [sm=scared0008.gif] I started the turn knowing I had to do something urgently about the fuel situation in AGS sector. I then got so wrapped up in the turn I lost sight of the fuel guage. Almost all of Kleist's armour is now stranded on the north bank of the Dnepr!!! I ordered the Luftwaffe to provide an emergency fuel drop and I get this from the POMPOUS PORCINE **** that is Herman Goering.... 13th August 1941 Turn 14 Army Group South I want to save my pp but I would also like to put Kleist's panzers on defensive or Sustained, but that would make them vulnerable to attack and use up precious pp. I decide to take a chance and hope the Soviets are not in a position to counter - and they won't necessarily know about my fuel issues either... 17th August 1941 Turn 15 Army Group North One place to go immediately is to AGS. There is no fuel for the panzers at all. I play the refuel card again.... and get the same answer. Oh dear.... Anyway. Back to the front, and AGN appear to have a dramatic reduction in AP's. As a result I cannot attack with 18th Army and can only make one attack with the 16th. 17th August 1941 Turn 15 Army Group Centre 9th Army split the Soviet defence in half in the north, but this is where its so difficult. The Soviets in the northern half cannot be left, but I cannot spare 9th Army's units to go chasing after them. These units are needed for the attack on Smolensk - assuming my Siege Artillery ever bothers turning up... 2nd Panzergruppe have made a breach in the Soviet defences in the south - but cannot exploit the gap. 17th August 1941 Turn 15 Army Group South With the Luftwaffe failing again I do not know how to rectify the situation. In a desperate move I have played the 'High Octane' card, but suspect this fuel allowance will still rely upon appropriate transport and so won't be delivered - but I have to try something, anything to save the panzers. 21st August 1941 Turn 16 Army Group North + Finland Nothing happening in Finland but 16th and 18th Armies have done well this turn, taking Ostrov and incurring heavy loss on the Soviets. 18th Army is now just south of Pskov. 21st August 1941 Turn 16 Army Group Centre The 2nd and 6th Armies make reasonable progress in advancing on Gomel, while to the north, 2nd Panzergruppe eats into Soviet defences on their way to Bryansk. Things looks a little shaky north of Smolensk and 9th Army is being stretched and much of 3rd Panzergruppe was used to take Smolensk. 21st August 1941 Turn 16 Army Group South Guess what? Yep no surprises there. For the third time running the Luftwaffe fail to re-supply the 1st Panzergruppe. This is just rubbish... A decision card comes up that allows me to take trucks from the infantry and give to the panzers. No idea if it will work but let's see. Meanwhile attacks by 6th Army on Kiev and 3rd Romanian on Odessa were failures - as were much of 11th Army's attempts to pressure Nikolayev. 25th August 1941 Turn 17 Army Group North Another useful - if not spectacular turn. 16th Army have pushed on from Ostrov north and east to guard the flank of 18th Army who are to be tasked with taking Pskov. Hey Warspite, I've had similar problems with aerial resupply not working at all, and have posted in the tech support forum. Might help if you moved your PZG headquarters unit a bit back towards your airfield. That will reduce the range a bit and might allow a trickle of fuel to get through. But I think this is very counter-intuitive; Ju52s had a long range, even fully loaded, and should be able to make it the 12 hexes...

My relations with Goering are 'Strong'. But if not, I think at this stage of the war the Germans were able to do this (hence Demyansk more than a few months later) + Goering keen desire for his Luftwaffe to be seen as 'saving the day'. Anyway, as you will see it worked at the fourth time of asking.

25th August 1941 Turn 17 Army Group Centre I said 9th Army were stretched and sure enough they got bitten in a couple of engagements. I have made some progress with 2nd Panzergruppe south of the Minsk-Moscow highway and so have felt able to shift 3rd Panzergruppe assets north to help out.. 25th August 1941 Turn 17 Army Group South Right, the truck 'rob Peter (infantry) to pay Paul (Panzers) helped a little and I got some oil through. I also got a top up courtesy of Goering. The downside of course is that I have few AP's for the infantry - the Romanians can't even cross water, 6th, 11th and 17th Armies can barely attack, and some of 17th Army can't even cross water using rail and road! But the good news is that I have repositioned the panzers slightly - all hexes have 2 or 3 divisions, and even got some infantry to assist. I have move the 1st Panzergruppe HQ slightly nearer the road too. Finally I've played a ton of pp on truck refits and stuff. Let's hope I can get the panzers moving soon.... One final piece of good news - Odessa has fallen without me attacking. The Soviet had a unit or two in there. How is that possible? 29th August 1941 Turn 18 Army Group Centre 9th Army gets smacked once again. I am going to need to do more here. I bring 3rd Panzergruppe much closer to the action to try and dissuade the Soviets from further aggression. I also place a couple of well aimed blows against the Soviets in that area. That was a waste. Siege Artillery is on its way to Gomel... but the city falls to 2nd Army. The intention (depending as ever on the strength of Soviet forces) is for 2nd Army to head southeast and for 6th Army to head east and, hopefull, provide support to 2nd Panzergruppe's right flank. 29th August 1941 Turn 18 Army Group South The troops were rockin' and the tanks were rollin'! Well the latter anyway. The troops of 11th and 17th Division appear particularly ineffective. Maybe they need a rest. The fuel situation seems to have been sorted and I start to breakout from the bridgehead. Only thing is.... I have no idea what the plan is!! 2nd September 1941 Turn 19 Army Group North A strange old turn for von Leeb's men. Little to report in the 'Are we there [Leningrad] yet?' stakes. But 16th Army were usefully employed in the tidying up of much of the hinterland, hopefully paving the way to resuming the advance shortly. Hopefully. For 3rd Panzergruppe it was a case of consolidation rather than advance. Meanwhile 2nd Army had a stuttering start to their turn. The contribution from the three German infantry armies is becoming less and less, while the Romanians are useless. I think all five armies just need a turn or three to rest up. Ominously the ridiculously over-stretched 9th Army detect a new enemy to the northeast..... 3rd Panzergruppe dishes out some punishment to those Soviets in the front row., but 2nd Panzergruppe make no attacks. They are conserving their energy until 4th Army arrive. 2nd Army struggle to make much headway. This is a pity as I need them as the anvil on which 1st Panzergruppe will smash the Red Army....
