clark_x_zhang -> Question about assault ratio and flanking benefit (12/25/2015 12:42:12 AM)

Hi guys,
Can someone tell me if there's a relationship between the assault ratio and flanking benefit? In other words, to get the flanking bonus from attacking from two hexes 120 degrees apart, does the attacking strength form each of those hexes have to be a certain percentage of the defender's strength?

Thanks for your help,
CZ

CZ,

I do not know for sure about assault ratio and flanking advantage (Curtis probably knows exactly). I _think_ that assault ratio (what shows up in the Attack Planner) does not include the flanking advantage; I know it does not include the possible weight of supporting artillery or non-attacking cooperating units. But that is what I think -- one would have to run a set of tests and compare/contrast results to be sure. (I'm tested out after crawling through a mess of AT combat tests.)

According to the documentation, flanking advantage "preserveres" through the turn. So if you attack hex 12,12 from hex 11,11 in round 1, and then attack it again from hex 13,11 in a later round (2,3,..) of a turn, you are supposed to receive the flanking benefit to the second (later round) attack. I've never verified this, but I do play as though it works, and the play seems to work out that way.

Short version -- I dunno, but I think it does not show up in AR. I would figure the AR to actually be increased by any flanking benefit. HTH.
