Schr75 -> Nuclear ASROC is to destructive (12/25/2015 7:54:38 PM)

Hi Devs

I know someone previously questioned the nuclear destruction model, and never returned with any evidence that it was off, so I will try to back this claim up with facts :)

I have absolutely no firsthand knowledge to attack the surface/airburst model, but I do think that the subsurface model is a bit to effective (Destructive).

In the attached save file a Spruance is about to nuke an auto detectable November at max depth and range, but still manages to kill itself.
Just run the file and enjoy the show.

The nuclear ASROC was live fired in operation Swordfish, and the firing ship survived perfectly well.

So I do think that the underwater nuclear model is either a bit to destructive, or the warheads are simulated a bit to large.

Hope you guys can use this, and marry xmas.

And the video link.

The ASROC action is about 6:20 in.

Thanks for the report and the file. Add to our list.

Ok found an issue. The weapons does indeed have a 10k warhead but most sources point at a 10nm range not 6nm. I'm adding the fix and we'll retest in beta to see how it does.

I don't think we'll set a minimum as there are cases when a captain may be ordered to sacrifice his ship if things have gone nuclear or Godzilla's making a run at Tokyo.
