When I think about it, I suppose "trigger" is the right word. I just didn't know if there was a better term. (The scenario in question assumes Russia is being mean to Ukraine, again. But this time, because of things like Russian ships harassing Turkish ships, "accidents" where European planes have been shot down by Russian planes over Syria by accident, etc., NATO is fed up and NATO also knows it has to do something or risk becoming irrelevant and Russian aggression that would normally have just been met with a "tsk! tsk! [but we don't want to start a shooting war over this]" from NATO turns into "okay, that's enough...knock it off or this time we WILL do something about it." And Russia ignores them figuring it is just posturing but...wow...no...it isn't...and that's how we started shooting at each other in the Black Sea...)
