Namudin -> [Suggestion] Finnish advance modification (12/28/2015 4:30:54 PM)

In the game I am playing (normal/normal) I captured Leningrad at the end of September. The chance of the Finns crossing the border stays at a resolute 10% for me having taken Narva and Luga. If those two are worth 5% each, then surely holding Leningrad should count for an additional percentage, as perhaps should taking Moscow (which I took early October, Finns still not keen).

Hi Namudin,

That's a good suggestion.

Cheers,

It kind of makes sense, but on the flip-side the Finns were historically fairly reluctant allies, whose principal objective was to hitch their wagon to Germany to recapture lost territory, rather than buying into the plan to expand their lands. Certainly the fall of Leningrad might have been the trigger to have gone on into Karelia, but equally maybe not. If anything the loss of Leningrad to Germany might make them less likely to push on? Why die for the German cause unnecessarily?
While they are already limited to the AGN zone and can't exactly march on Moscow, in my (albeit fairly limited) experience so far if Leningrad falls they already have the Northern front pretty beat and really don't need much help cleaning up the sector. But I would change the event to mean that if Finland does trigger to cross the B line, I would add/shift a new B line a bit further south and east in line with the new but still limited Finnish enthusiasm for the cause. Enough to help prevent a Soviet counterattack in winter, but not so much help that the north is no further challenge. As it is 10% per turn from end of Sept makes it reasonably certain it will happen.

Hi,

I've had a think about this and I'm more inclined to leave it as is.

Gunnulf has highlighted a few key points.

There were substantial Soviet forces still up north and the Finns would have been reluctant to push much further into Russia with these present.

If you play at a higher AI difficulty level than normal, once Leningrad falls, a Soviet Army, or two, will appear sometime later and you could be caught short if your Finns are off campaigning elsewhere.

Cheers,
Cameron
