aguvenli -> Basic Supply, Soviets (1/3/2016 11:33:28 AM)

I understand from the manual that supply must be traced from a source to the receiving unit. As per the movement table in 5.1.14, supply travels over open terrain at a rate of 10 AP/hex.

Playing as Soviets, when I click "show supply layer" on a unit, say the 5th Rifle Div on 22,34 at game start, I can see a long line be traced from Moscow to the 5th. However, the interface gives the distance supply travelled as 38ap/250ap.

How does the game arrive at the 38ap calculation? Is it 38ap from the nearest railroad hex (single? double?) that is connected to Moscow/STAVKA? Then again, 8 is an odd figure - every number I referred to in the said movement table is a multiple of 5. Where did the 8 come from?

Help this noob out please. :)

Hi aguvenli,

If you select Stavka, in Moscow, then switch on the supply layer you can then click on any unit and red arrows will show the route that supply follows to the unit.

Mostly supply will follow rail lines as it's very cheap to do so, about 1 AP a pop for double rail from memory.

The supply AP cost, eg. 38 ap above, is the total AP expended by supply to reach that unit. The maximum possible reach of 250 ap.

Table 5.1.14 shows the supply movement costs over terrain as you've indicated. Below it, on the same page (p.108) is 5.1.14.2 which is the road cost. Due to the fact that I wrote too much a few things had to be trimmed to make it all fit. The supply movement costs by road column in this table is one of them.

Not a problem as you can use the terrain window (top centre) mouse-over to see what the supply by road costs are.

For Soviet double tracked rail it's 1 ap per hex but this rises to 5 ap per hex for single tracked in MUD.

Cheers,
Cameron
