With the great sale currently in progress, at least through today, I'm scratching my head in deciding just which game I want to get. I want them all, of course, but reality forces me to choose only one.

GG's War in the West
War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition

I have always wanted WitP, simply because it's the one theater I haven't played extensively, but the sheer massiveness of the game makes me wonder if I will simply put the game aside after a spell

WitW, on the other hand, seems a bit more manageable with its weekly turns.

So, to those of you who have played both, which is your favorite and why?

I appreciate any input given.[:)]

Some thoughts:

- Pick what interests you most. Europe or the Pacific, Ground or Naval Warfare (both have strong air elements.)
- WitP:AE is bigger and more complex.
- WitW is IGOUGO and WitP:AE is WEGO. IGOUGO is more forgiving to learn.

I actually love both games and always smile when people try to compare them. They are very different apart from similar names.

I think it depends on your interests, 2 very different styles of game.

I have been playing WITPAE & its predecessors for about 10 years and I think its a fantastic game, the detail is amazing and you must truly immerse yourself to get full value. The support and knowledge provided by the forum members adds to the enjoyment.

WITW is a different fish, while based on WITE I think it has a lot of "maturing" to go. I do play it against the AI, and in my way get enough enjoyment from it but not in the same way as in WITPAE.

They are Apples & Oranges, which do you prefer?

One advantage of WitW is that it will run better on modern systems.

I've been playing war games since the 1970's, but I have been principally a player of land games. I've not played much in the way of a naval focused game, so I think I will try my hand with WitP. I've been wanting to try my hand at WitP since I first saw it advertised so long ago, but the price has always held me back. My children are all grown now and on their own. I think I will spoil myself for a change since the game is on sale, and I will of course get the boxed version so I can have a fine manual to study.

I appreciate the feedback.[8D]

I promise not to berate either of you should I prove to have chosen unwisely. [:'(]

The land game of WITPAE is its weak point, would make a great Napoleonic Land Game engine.

That's another game I've been searching for. A good hex-based operational Napoleon game. Another time for that one.

Someone needs to turn "Struggle of Nations" into a computer game :-)
