BruceSinger -> Capturing Fort Cities (1/12/2016 5:07:40 AM)

I have never been able to capture a fortified city. I have kept a Corp active in the city for the entire senario with either Assault or Offensive postures.

I look at the game logs and see where the enmey is attacking/besiegeing my citys but I never see a message that I am besigeing their cites.

Do I need to give a special command to make my corps attack/besiege a fortified city?

Do these message show up in the game log?

if you only use offensive stance the only way to take a fort is if the defender surrenders (once they run out of supply there is a % each turn that may lead to this).

to storm you need at least 1 less breach than the fort level (so you can try to storm a level 1 fort with no breach), have your stack in the red-red stance. There is a quirk with the stack that is the army HQ, it won't storm a fort if there is another friendly stack in the province - other stacks can be as small as a supply wagon you have detached to send back to a depot.

If your main commander is inactive (ie you can only use the defend stance), one trick is to break out a sub-force led by an active commander and use this to take the fort, only part of your army will then fight but if the garrison is small this is no real problem - and if the garrison is large you are better off screening the city.

Remember a besieged city on a river can be taking in supply via the river, so if you want a full blockade either well entrenched artillery or some river boats may be needed to block that supply path

Is there a message in the log you besige or assault a fort.

Both stances need to be red. Will give that a try.

Thanks for your info.

depending on what happens in a siege you may see one of two messages. One will tell you about changes to the level of breaches (gain or loss), the other is if you inflict hits on the defenders (think of this as a form of attrition).

I have multiple corp with red/red stance for multipe turns and I have never seen a message about my army on level of breaches or hits.

However, it seems like any time the enemy is in the region, I see a message about them attempting a breach. It makes me think my corp are never attempting a breach.

Red would mean you assault, not that you want to make breaches. You always try to make breaches when you siege. If you fail, then you lack artilleries or special leaders.

What command do you give to do a "siege"

Gunnulf -> RE: Capturing Fort Cities (1/14/2016 1:07:29 AM)

Its automatic. If you sit a force in the territory with a enemy fort present you will be trying to siege and create breaches each turn. There will be a siege icon which a tooltip when you roll over it. If there is a breach this will turn red with a number, then orange with further breaches. You will not always be successful just sitting there, but you will be helped by siege guns, engineers or some leaders with special abilities.

If you have the money, there are a couple of RGDs that can help.
