Rory Noonan -> Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 8:15:37 AM)

Just used the steam workshop to upload two scenarios. It's quick, it's easy and I'm very impressed. Thanks Devs!

Dimitris -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 9:06:25 AM)

Thanks for using it!

Skjold -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 10:40:01 AM)

Very good job, long anticipated feature for me.

mikmykWS -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 3:19:37 PM)

Yeah very cool. This would be just some of the stuff Baloogan has brought to the project. He's amazing.

Mike

RoryAndersonCDT -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 4:08:13 PM)

Thanks Mike!

One of the objectives of the steam workshop integration was to make it really really easy to upload a scenario to the workshop.The goal was to make it about as simple as saving a scenario to disk, and I think we achieved that!

cf_dallas -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 8:27:46 PM)

This sounds awesome, and will be the thing that finally drives me to get Steam. It's only been a decade or so. :-)

Mgellis -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 9:02:29 PM)

Please forgive a couple of dumb questions, as I have never used Steam...

Can you simply register for free on Steam and use the scenario workshop? Or do you have to buy something from Steam or pay other fees to get access to it?

Thanks.

comsubpac -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 9:39:37 PM)

you have to own the game on Steam as far as I know.

Sardaukar -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (1/31/2016 10:11:56 PM)

This might work instructions on video how to get steam workshop stuff downloaded without Steam). I don't know for sure, since I didn't try (I have both Steam and Matrix versions of Command):

You don't have to buy anything to install the client although you'll have to register.

The advantage of doing this is the steam client handles in the updates and in the case of the workshop offers a whole system of building and updating scenarios for editors and players.

To use with command just follow instructions on getting a key from matrix here.

michaelm75au -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/1/2016 12:28:59 AM)

It is possible to register the game on Steam, but still use the Matrix standalone to access the scenario workshop.

hellfish6 -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/1/2016 11:59:08 PM)

So I have a minor nitpick/concern about the Steam Workshop. I uploaded one of my scenarios to it (I can't access the workshop normally, as I didn't buy my copy of the game on Steam, rather Matrix gave my a serial number to use it on Steam). I found out that all my published scenarios were already uploaded to the workshop after I updated and uploaded my own. Now Dmitris is the 'owner' of my scenarios, but is there a way I could 'reacquire' them in order to update them as I see fit?

Note - this isn't me talking IPR or anything, this is just for me, as the original author, wanting the ability to update the scenarios. I like the fact that they're already up, but I just want to make sure I can access them if needed.

Thanks for the great feature!

Face01 -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/2/2016 2:55:06 AM)

So I was just about to start making a new scenario. Would you recommend going through steam? Is it easier to save your progress?

Thanks in advance!

michaelm75au -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/2/2016 3:04:53 AM)

I would think that once players start adding scenarios to the Workshop, how the Community Pack should be handled needs to be determined; either drop it and rely solely on Steam, or refresh the pack with selected workshop items.
As I mentioned earlier, it is possible to use the Steam Workshop without actually downloading the Steam version, but you do need to register the game with Steam.

The community pack has been uploaded to the Workshop by a few of the Command Team which is why you are having a conflict.
Not sure how this will be handled going forward, but my suggestion would be that as the original scenario owner wants to take control, he would need to contact the current owner so it can be deleted and the new owner upload his scenario.
I can see why the pack was uploaded; so there is a base set of scenarios available. It is also possible that the original owner may no longer be available to support his scenario so it belonging to a Command Team member is reasonable.
Currently the pack zip is refreshed to the latest game database??? Will scenario owners be doing this at each update???

Well, i uploaded my missions to the workshop and the missions that are in the community pack were already uploaded, they were also later deleted without any input from me leaving no conflict.

Well the scenarios were initially batch-uploaded in order to flesh out the workshop inventory. As scenario authors begin actually uploading (and managing) their own works I have no problem stepping aside and removing the copies I uploaded [:)]

AlGrant -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/2/2016 10:14:39 AM)

Never used Steam before and just need to clarify something before I try the Steam Workshop.
(the answer to this is probably already here somewhere ..... just me getting mixed up!)

If I'm understanding this correctly then in order to use the Workshop for scenarios I need to register my Matrix copy of CMANO with Steam.
Does this change anything in the game itself..... as in the way I download and install updates (inc Dev builds).

If at all possible I'd rather just use the steam workshop for the scenario side of things and other than that just keep things as they are.
If it's all or nothing for Steam then I'll probably stick with the current steam-free install :-)

Steam doesn't change anything in the game itself but it does however change the update process. Workshop only works on steam but other then that the games should be identical.

Steam auto-updates all your installed games for you, however that does not apply to beta patches like the current RC. To access that you would need to right click on CMANO in your steam library, click settings -> beta versions and select your optional build in the drop down menu and it should automaticaly download for you.

Note: I have Steam in swedish so my translations of menu items might be slightly off and if i am wrong please feel free to correct me :)

Dysta -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/2/2016 11:42:05 AM)

Wow, never realized there are so many non-Steam players in here.

Yup! I've already removed one of excroat3's scenarios from the ones I've uploaded, please drop me a line at my chatroom or via email baloogan@gmail.com if you want me to remove one of your scenarios from my uploads.

It is possible to run the game without installing the Steam game version, and still get the Workshop content. Once you create a Steam account and register the product on Steam, you just need to have two files in the Command directory to tell it to connect to Steam and have the Steam client running (needs this to access Steam through your account).
Once, the Workshop is opened to public access, I can give more details, but I am using this method as part of beta testing.
From memory, one of the 2 files already exists as part of the installation in the game directory.

AlGrant -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/3/2016 12:37:48 PM)

Skjold & michaelm

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll have to give this a try

Mgellis -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/4/2016 2:22:36 AM)

Registered for Steam without any problem. It took me a little while to figure out how to activate the key, etc., but now I seem to be able to access the Community Hub, the Workshop, etc. just fine. Definitely a nice resource. Thanks to the developers for making this possible.

Mgellis -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/4/2016 2:26:38 AM)

Steam prompted me to activate my key and then downloaded an extra copy of the game to my computer (I couldn't figure out any other way to get to the Workshop except by letting it do this). So I now have two copies in different directories, but there is room on my hard drive, so I don't care. As far as I can tell, both copies are working fine.

mikmykWS -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/4/2016 9:23:51 AM)

That's correct behavior. Steam installs all games to a specific directory to manage them.

Mike

michaelm75au -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/4/2016 10:32:54 AM)

What I did after registering the product on Steam, was to 'add a non-Steam Game to my library' pointing to the Matrix version, so I could play it (the Matrix version) from within the Steam interface.

Cheers .... that's kind of what I'm looking for.

Mgellis -> RE: Steam Workshop - Wow (2/5/2016 5:04:10 AM)

More questions...

I uploaded a scenario to the Community workshop...well, sort of...

As far as I can tell, Steam has created a special workshop just for me. That's nice of them, but I was trying to share my scenario with the entire Command community. My scenario does not appear to be listed in the general community workshop. How do I get it listed there, too? I am probably just missing something obvious, but if there is something like an "add my scenario to the Command community workshop" button, I am not seeing it.

By the way, does Steam automatically include the .ini file with a scenario? If not, that's kind of a problem because you need the .ini file if you want to update the scenario to a new version of the database. Or does Steam take care of this automagically?

Thanks. And thanks for your patience with my dumb questions. There is probably a FAQ for Steam somewhere that explains all this, but, again, I cannot find it.

I think I like Steam, but I also think it may drive me crazy. [:)]
