Hi,

So Dabigbabes game, Chungking is surrounded and has a defensive force of 2000, I have 3-4 000. The problem is the forts which are level 6. Is there anything I can do to help bring them down ? I've attacked 3 or 4 times without any luck. I've brought in heavy artillery and the engineers I could find. Is it just luck and patience I need ? Attacks are infrequent as each one results in really high fatigue & disruption.

Huge numbers of supplied troops in huge forts in a city with high supplies are very hard to root out. That is the way it is, need to deal with it [:'(] If starving does not work (cause they have big stockpiles and/or produce still) maybe better fix them and go.

But perhaps someone has magic formular.

Supplies are low, been starving, bombing and boarding daily, including hitting the airbase.

You will only reduce forts if you either,
Achieve attack odds of 1:1 or better
or
Use combat engineere who pass a dice roll to reduce the fort level.
If you achieve both you can reduce forts by two levels in one attack.

Normal construction engineers dont cut it. Of course keep bombing and bombarding to use up their supply and keep disruption up.

Bring combat engineers to pound on forts + wait for them to replenish their losses after attacks because boy do them get mauled every time

Keeping airfield damaged through bombing to prevent fort rebuilding goes w/o saying of course

In a lot of scenarios, Chungking has internal supply source, so difficult to starve them.

As stated above:

Combat Engrs (many IJA ID's have them organic. Be sure to keep replacements on for them.
Lot'sa losses
Persistence

If you read AAR's, it generally take several months to reduce chungking. Think St Petersburg.

IME, against higher level forts you need heavy artillery 208mm and up to inflict casualties. Once you have started to get some destroyed squads instead of just disabled, your combat engineers will be able to take down forts without tremendous losses.

I agree with BB, large artillery is important and Japan does have siege artillery around.... Turn after turn you can reduce troops... in no single turn will you do much, but in the aggregate you will do a lot to the point that the position becomes untenable.

I think, from personal observation, that tanks can reduce forts.

For sure they are good for assaulting forts, but I am unsure of the reduction aspect. Will have to look for a combat where there are few combat engineers in any of the units and tanks in the assault.

Tanks per se do not reduce fort levels.  Only Combat Engineers per se can do so.

Otherwise fort reduction is entirely dependent on achieving a positive adjusted AV ratio.

Very interesting, tanks then in my cases helped achieve the conditions for the combat engineers to reduce forts.
