Poopyhead -> Who should serve? (2/12/2016 2:06:29 PM)

In another thread, the following question was asked: "So any decisions on who should be allowed to serve should consider what is our objective with the military and how do we best accomplish that?" The United States has volunteer military service. That's the objective on who should be allowed to serve. We've accomplished it quite well for many decades and perhaps "best" right now. Only adults have a legal right to volunteer their service and they must possess the mental capacity to do so. So the considerations against using children or mentally challenged volunteers are already met. We already have fit soldiers aged 50+ on active service and much older in the NG and reserves. So any statements that we don't use older people because of the level of our civilization are completely ridiculous fantasies. We also have soldiers with prosthetic limbs that still have what it takes to serve their country. So arguments to the contrary are bogus. We also don't restrict women from combat roles. We previously restricted women from combat arms. The arguments for this are also fantasies, as I demonstrated in another thread that was closed. All of the "fully-capable" men and women are in the military. Not everyone is fully-capable of being a brain surgeon, and not everyone can cut it as a volunteer in the military.
