toddtreadway -> 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 3:07:54 PM)

When I go to start the game, a box pops up saying it only supports certain resolutions, 1920 x 1080 included.

My laptop is set to 1920 x 1080, but I still get this message and cannot start the game.

toddtreadway -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 3:13:31 PM)

I figured out the issue.

I am using Windows 10. I had a custom scaling set up to increase the font size of Windows overall. (Display Settings). I turned off the custom scaling and the game runs fine.

Well, you laptop says 1920 x 1080 but it is not actually 1920 x 1080. You might be off by few pixels, or like you said you could be using Custom Scaling. Here is what you can do, modify the configuration.ini file in the Windows Notepad and change the following:

Windowed=Yes
Sizex=1920
Sizey=1080

Save the file, and run the game. The game will run in windowed mode at 1920 x 1080 assuming your LCD can support it. If not please select resolution that the game supports:

1024 x 768, 1280 x 800, 1360 x 768, 1366 x 768, 1536 x 864, 1280 x 960, 1440 x 900, 1280 x 1024, 1680 x 1050, 1600 x 900, 1600 x 1200, 1920 x 1080, 1920 x 1200, 2560 x 1440.

chrisleko -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 5:10:19 PM)

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I switched it to

Windowed=Yes

It didn't actually make the game windowed and still wouldn't run unless I changed resolution to one the game supports.

Yes you need to do both, change the Windowed setting and the Sizex and Sizey settings.

chrisleko -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 6:18:50 PM)

Apologies, I change the resolution in the config file and it still doesn't load until I manually change the resolution of my screen. When I do this and change the resolution in windows to one the game supports, it still loads full-screen. Is the windowed option just a borderless windowed option? Or should it run in a window. I ran into some weird permissions error when trying to change the file too.

Krys -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 7:02:48 PM)

Thanks for the quick response, Peter, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Yes, after modifying the ini file as you suggested the game did run in 1920x1080, but unfortunately the map didn't scroll for me, so in the first training scenario I couldn't see any further south than the three US units in the buildings at the south end of town.

Oh, well - guess I'll live with having to change settings in the control panel when I play. I would suggest that a game settings option to switch between various display settings would be a nice addition when you guys get around to it. An apparently minor issue like this could result in some potentially very negative comments by reviewers, I would think.

Anyway - going to reset the ini file and go play a game.

:-)

chrisleko -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 7:27:01 PM)

I reinstalled the game outside of program files and the ini edit seemed to work this time. I know I can't scroll by going to the edge of the screen, but can using the arrow keys.

Peter Fisla -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/25/2016 8:30:38 PM)

yes, in windowed mode you scroll the map using arrow keys...

Is there any way to change that to being configurable or also able to use WASD to move instead of the arrow keys? Having to use CTRL constantly but then having to move your hand over to the arrow keys to move the map around is cumbersome. WASD and LCtrl + mouse is much more comfortable then Arrow Keys and RCtrl.

I have far too many HOTAS and other devices on my desk to slide my keyboard over and use arrow keys and rctrl like I did back in the early 90s. :)

Sorry no support for key configuration feature...

How about allowing users to scroll the map by dragging with the middle mouse button?

Budge4 -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (2/29/2016 10:41:38 AM)

Thanks for info on the configuration.ini
I have my desktop at 3840x2160 res, run most of my games at that res. Tigers on the Hunt wont start at that res though.
My 40" 4k Monitor also doesn't show 2560x1440 or lower res too good, slightly blurry.

So getting Tigers in the Hunt to run windowed at 2560x1440 res was a great help,

so thanks for the info Peter Fisla

bosbes -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/5/2016 10:10:51 PM)

How can I change the configuration.ini file? Everytime I try to do that, I'm denied access. Am playing this game in 1920x1080 resolution so 'the grey top' is off screen.

Paullus -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/5/2016 10:43:47 PM)

Try to start Notepad as Administrator by right clicking on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Then open configuration.ini through Notepad.

Did that, but no change although I see the configuration.ini file was changed.

Paullus -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/6/2016 3:52:35 PM)

Okay, try copy the file to your Documents map. Open file and change it, then copy it back to the game folder.

bosbes -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/6/2016 9:34:05 PM)

No, didn't work. Change sreen resolution?

Franciscus -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/7/2016 8:02:00 PM)

There is something "peculiar" about screen resolution management, indeed.
I use a 27' screen with native resolution of 2560x1440, but use windows scaling of 125%. When I first started the game (WITH day one patch, of course), the game refused to launch in non-wIndowed mode. I changed manually the config file to 2560x1440, it also refused to launch. OK, I thought, 125% scaling is not recognized as "real" 2560x1440.

So I switched to windowed mode with lower resolution, and the game launched alright. But I didn«t like to have to use the arrow keys to scroll the map...

I then tried to cancel windows scaling and restarted the PC. Now TotH would launch in non-windowed mode, 2560x1440, as I expected, but my eyes really can't stand the small letters with these resolution...

So, I again activated windows scaling to 125% and rebooted my PC. Before reverting to windowed mode, I started one last time the game, and, lo and behold, now the game runs perfectly, in non-windowed mode, 2560x1440, and with windows scaling 125%. [&:]

I have no idea why it worked out in the end, but I am happy it did [8D]

Maye the old IT rule of "try to reboot it and see if it gets fixed" worked after all...[:D]

bosbes -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/8/2016 7:46:13 PM)

Thanks for your story; maybe the good old 'reboot' indeed.[;)]

HeinzHarald -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/8/2016 8:39:45 PM)

I'm not sure if Windows ever does this on it's own, but it may have activated "Disable DPI scaling" for TOTH (you find it in properties of the game exe). This is basically the same as 100% DPI but for the game only.

Franciscus -> RE: 1920 x 1080 problem (3/10/2016 10:48:30 PM)

Hi.
I think I have not that option in my system (windows 7, portuguese)

To add a bit more (confusion), I notice that in my system (win 7, 2560x1440, 125% scaling), the game only works with "Use Windows XP style DPI Scaling" option checked (ON). If I disable this option the display options (ie, if I try DPI virtualization), the game does not launch. This, I think, means TotH exe is not really a "DPI-scalling aware" application
Check here for some technicalities: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908)

So in fact I can only run the game full screen without real DPI scaling (which is a shame, the counters are a bit small, and without zoom...[:(])

Regards

Correct, the game is not DPI scaling aware
