Mike Dubost -> What is Your Favorite Form/Display Feature? (2/26/2016 3:42:56 AM)

So, one of the threads in another area of the MWiF formum got me thinking about forms/displays that I really like. My favorite is the Units in Game view under the info menu. I always manage to forget some naval unit during return to base. I specialize in sending out Italian subs through Gibraltar or IJN cruisers off India for commerce raiding and forgetting they are there. Using the form and filtering on "selectable" lets me find the one or 2 units holding up the end of the phase. I also use it to maximize use of TRANS/AMPH.

What is your favorite?

That one is definitely useful but my favorite is CTRL-Q (for Queue) which brings up the Pools form, where you can see all future production, Construction and Repair pools, spare pilots, who's storing up O-chits and many other useful things.

I think the game is a work of art [&o] (with one exception).

The map is beautiful, the zoom-in levels are perfect and the readability of the various forms and displays is excellent (so often overlooked - AEGOD take note - but so important for us older folks).

Could one or two forms be improved in terms of operation and display? Probably. But even where that is the case, we are talking about fine tuning what is perfectly workable and more than fit for purpose.

The game forms are packed full of all the information required and set out well for ease of reading.

The one exception? I dislike the convoy system intensely and, if I'm honest, does affect my desire to play more.

A recent example was a PBEM where my opponent told me to use 13 Japanese build points. The display said 11 available. After ages mucking around I managed to reduce the available points to 10 [8|], before getting back to where I started. I needed my opponent to tell me what to do to get 13 available. This is a computer game - it should not be like that. Now don't get me wrong, this example probably confirms I'm a bit of a thicky - but that is not the point. If 13 points are available I should not need to spend ages (and ultimately be unsuccessful too!) in trying to get the program do what the rules state is possible.

If this problem could be fixed the game forms and display features would be a 9.5/10 - note not 10/10 because, after all, 'perfection is an elusive goal' as a wise man once said [:)].

I experienced the same issue with the BPs and how AI routes (and overrides at times manual set routes) the resources.

For example with the British lines, the resources from Canada strictly refuses to get into Faroes' Gap seazone - and occupy CPs in Bay of Biscay which are needed for other resources. To manually set them to get through Faroes Gap simply does not work (oddly enough for the Japanese it always worked manually setting which Sea you want to use for shippings).

The Form I favor the most?
I agree the form I prefer the most is the one where I can see the pools - gotta love to see coming troopers, what can I build and such.
