I read in an old magazine that in a 80s strike package, fighters where the last aircraft to be launched and the first to be recovered, because they had the lesser flight endurance, and the fastest cruise speed (in WW2 it was the same way). But those were the F-14/A-6/A-7 days... nowadays, maybe a Super Hornet loaded with AG ordnance has the lesser endurance, compared with an AA armed F/A-18. In any case, AEW would be first and last (more endurance and less transit speed) and tankers would be second to launch and second to last in the recovery.
