Soldiers of Destruction, 10 October 1944.

ASL Scenario N

History: Radzymin, Poland: The men of the SS Totenkopf Division had stalled the advance of The Fifth Guards Tank Army in late September. Then, silence. No fighting had occurred for the past three weeks. It seemed like a dream, Time to sleep; time to mend clothing; time to listen to the birds sing. Replacements arrived; weapons were stripped and cleaned. It was too good, too unreal. A feeling of unease pervaded the encampment. There was almost a sigh of relief as the dull thunder of the Russian advance began again.

Designed to be played as Russians only on very hard. Made a few modifications to original scenario for the Finnish AI. Was able to get balanced results with tight wins for both sides. As in the original, this is one of those scenarios that I want to keep playing just one more time. The OOC rule can really throw a monkey wrench into your best laid plans. Enjoy!

Krys -> RE: Submitted Scenarios (3/14/2016 11:28:10 PM)

Some revisions to my Valentine campaign, a new Brits vs. Russians "alternate reality" scenario, and Wolfs Schloss - a very tough mountaintop objective.

I encourage everyone to use any/all of my submitted scenarios (particularly since none of mine are true to real historical battles but are all fictional) as the basis of something of your own. If you think what I've put together is too easy - reinforce the other side and/or manipulate the maps or unit placement, and go from there. If you find something that I've tossed together to be too difficult - jump in there and edit it, reinforce your side then go back and roll over those bad guys....it's supposed to be FUN, right?

One of the things that I really enjoy about the scenario creator tool is the ability for ALL of us to tinker with any and all parts of the various submissions pretty much any way we want. Talk about your "sandbox"...this is about as open as you can possibly want it.

A last thought - make some campaign scenarios, folks. Make a big map - 3x6 or more - string units, emplacements, hills, buildings and VP objectives all over the place, drop reinforcements all over in the later game turns to maybe turn the tide of the battle back and forth - use this impressive sandbox as the wonderful game tool that it is.

The incredible array of scenarios that have popped up so quickly is really impressive, and shows no signs of falling off. Thanks to all of you for pitching in your super talents - this is awesome!

Dead man's Corner: 09th June 1944, near Carentan, Normandie, France.

History: A small element ( 10 to 20 men ) of the 101st Airborne Division bumped into some German troops trying to regroup
and form a defensive line near Carentan. Heavily outnumbered the paratroopers engaged them anyway in the hope of hindering
their attempt until reinforcements arrive. They were soon joined by a single Stuart tank. Unfortunately the tank was destroyed
by an AT gun and the crew was killed. Because the tank commander's body could be seen sticking out of the tank for a couple of
days afterward, the spot were the Stuart was destroyed was latter named ''Le coin de l'homme mort'' ( Dead man's Corner)
by the French locals.
Troops from both sides rapidly arrived on the scene. The Germans where eventually pushed back towards Carentan.

Best played as American against AI.

Both sides receive reinforcements throughout the scenario.

Terrain: Rural with hills.

Scenario Length: 9 Game Turns

Victory Objective: The side with the most Victory Points at the end is the winner.

When Iron Crosses grow
South-East of Berlin, April 21, 1945, Germany

History: The Russian army was driving on the German capital.
A farm just a few miles from Berlin. All that morning,
the defenders listened to the sound of artillery shells
falling behind their position. By 1000 hours, several
refugees reported tanks advancing up the main road in
their direction. Radio communications were in shambles,
so the defenders were on their own. They wouldn’t have
to wait long. Several Russian T34’s backed up by two
companies of infantry, assaulted this knot of resistance.

THE DEAD OF WINTER
Northwest of STARITSA, December 29, 1941, RUSSIA

History: The German army was frozen in place. Bitter cold and
deep snow made the thinly-clad Wehrmacht dig in and fight first
for warmth, then the Russians. The Siberians were well equipped
for war in the snow, but the Soviet High Command still threw
them piecemeal at the German strongpoints. The much-heralded
Soviet winter counteroffensive was in fact a series of small-

SL-7 Buchholz Station

Buchholz, German border, December 16, 1944:

History: The original German opening for the Battle of the Bulge was somewhat subdued. German infantry, with little armor, was to
seize key road junctions early so that armored formations could quickly pass through and exploit a breakthrough. One such key place
was the town of Bucholz, which sat alongside an abandoned railroad. It was held by a company of American infantry who were lined up
for chow outside the town when a company of the German 27th Fusilier Regiment came down the road. Neither side has expected to find
the other here, and there was a moment of mutual surprise as both sides scrambled to deploy. the fighting opened about 7 a.m. with
neither side able to gain a decisive advantage. Losses were given and taken and the battle would probably go to the first side to
receive reinforcements.

PEGASUS BRIDGE
BENOUVILLE, June 6, 1944, FRANCE
History: Operation "Overlord" called for the British 2nd Army to
land upon the beaches of Normandy north of Caen. As part of the
massive assault, the entire British 6th Airborne Division was to
land by glider and parachute behind German lines before the
invasion forces hit the beaches, forming a lodgement between the
Caen Canal and the River Dives to defend the left flank. Of
critical importance were two bridges that crossed the Orne and
the canal between Benouville and Ranville. To take these, a
special group drawn from the 6th Air-Landing Brigade was
organized. In a coup-de-main, Major John Howard and a reinforced
company of the 2nd Oxford & Bucks would come down near the Caen
Canal bridge at Benouville, there to seize and hold it until
relieved by commandos. At 0015 hours, the tow planes released
the gliders, and the "Red Devils" began the liberation of Western Europe.

The Awakening of the Spring
South of Lake Balaton, Hungary, 14 March 1945: With the Soviet Army firmly established on the Oder River and threatening Berlin
Hitler was still obsessed with taking the offensive elsewhere. Being in posession of an uncommitted reserve - the 6th SS Panzer
Army - Hitler decided to launch an attack to create a buffer zone between the Soviet forces near the Danube River and the Nagy-
kanizsa oil fields. Operation Fruehlingserwachen (The Awakening of the Spring) began on the night of March 5th. General Tolbuk-
hin's main force was hit hard, and the fighting was fierce. For the next several days, the Germans ground forward, adding divi-
sions as they went. German armor battered away at the Soviet right flank where, on the 14th, General Wohler threw in his last

MASSACRE IN PARADISE
LE PARADIS, South of MERVILLE, May 27, 1940, FRANCE
History: The Allied Command was building Operation Dynamo to
allow the evacuation of encircled Franco-British troops at
Dunkirk. To the extent possible, a defense perimeter was put in
place. But the German pressure was strong. Among the assailants
was the Totenkopf Division of the Waffen-SS. It was made up of
members of the "Death’s head groups", guard units from
concentration camps. Its head, Theodor Eicke, was a former
commander of the Dachau camp. The formation of this division
aroused the hostility of the Wehrmacht, which refused to equip
it. Himmler finally obtained Czech cannons and machineguns for
the division. Engaged at the moment of the British counterattack
at Arras, and then at Bethune, the Totenkopf was sorely tried
due to the inexperience of its troops and leaders. On 27 May,
the division isolated the soldiers of the 2nd Royal Norfolk
Regiment to the south of the hamlet named Le Paradis.

ASL S2 War of the Rats: Stalingrad, Russia 26 September 1942

History: During the summer months of 1942, German forces had advanced nearly unchecked across the Russian steppes. With Russian resistance west of the Don River broken, Hitler ordered Army Group B to capture Stalingrad. Using the traditional German tactics of lightning thrusts and envelopment, and with the Russians retreating before them, Sixth Army commander Paulus sent an armored spearhead into the suburbs of Stalingrad in a attempt to quickly capture the city. The German tactics failed inside the confines of the city, however, as the Russians were able to dig in and fight from every building. The initial spearhead blunted, the Germans committed more units and soon realized that this was a very differnt battle from what they had been fighting. The confines of the city stifled manoeuvre, and German superiority in artillery, air power, and armor were rendered ineffective as the infantry of both sides intermingled while fighting for each block of the city. This was Rattenkrieg-the war of the rats.
