Squirmer -> (4/5/2003 11:59:49 PM)

I will willingly take on a Kingtiger given 3 M4s :rolleyes: 1 on 1 no way. You might get lucky 1 time in 10 ...

Methinks Jess should have the say on this really :)

BTW do you get any form of spotters or is it literally 1 tank vs 1 tank?

Goblin -> (4/6/2003 12:43:26 AM)

I disagree. Maus is 'Mouse', and therefore no Kat. The PzIV is the PzIV. Tiger, Panther, King Tiger.

I have seen Jess kill two of my King Tigers from the front with an Easy 8, while I bounced (BOUNCED!) four 88mm rounds off of it. In our 1 on 1, I put 6 or so 88's into an Easy 8, all BONK, BOINK, and KaPING's. Anyone who thinks the game accurately reflects the M4's armor is smoking strong stuff....;)

Squirmer -> (4/6/2003 1:14:00 AM)

OK OK whatever :) As long as I can have a Firefly :rolleyes:

I see that thing with the 88s bouncing off a lot, on all kinds of vehicles too. It's only with the L71 though :confused: Gimme a JPz-IV/70 anyday ...

PS- Bel, I call a PzIV useless as far as the game goes. It is not very well represented in the game, ask Orzel, he agrees.
Until 6.something came out I loved the Pzkw IVg/h/j models. They were faster than the Tiger...more reliable than the early Panthers...could take some punishment and could hit hard in return!

Then that suddenly changed...overnight they became quite frankly the German version of the M4. All of a sudden they were getting knocked off left and right by 45mm and 57mm guns at long range...let alone a 75mm or 76mm gun! :mad:

My poor Pzkw IV's!!! :(

PS...Katz should be Tigers / Panthers / or their Assault gun spin offs...in my book that is. :)

Lol, another 'I like the tank, but not with the original equipment' guy...;) :D

I want to see you billy b@d@$$ M4 guys say I want my M4A1 one of these times!!

(Jess or Hawk, I meant you:p )

Ironfist -> Panzer IV's (4/6/2003 5:58:07 AM)

They were the main work horse of the day, I too have noticed that their quality has been lowered and I too have seen 88's bounce right of tanks within 20 hexs using all 6 shots while they kill me with one shot. By the way are they ever going to do anything about the dancing tank bug ? You know where the whole tank turns to fire instead of the turret so your opponents wait for the side and rear shots so they dont have to close assault like I have to do. Well atleast thats what I end up doing.:eek: Personally I think we should let the game pick ratio and all Im sick of opponents with hopped up units. And why only one tank ? why not one platoon or one Section ? If its going to be one tank vs one tank lets go open country no hidding. Then agian there's alot to be said about tactics. Last note I vote for the M4 75mm vs Panzer IV 75mm. sounds more fair. If not I'd go with a Jadpanther or Panther "G" or "HUH".

Goblin -> (4/6/2003 6:02:56 AM)

Ironfist,

Orient your tank in the direction you want it. Then hit 'T', and use the Next and Previous buttons to cycle thru until you get the target you desire, and select that target. Now use the 'F' key, and your tank will fire at that target without turning its hull towards it (unless it is adjacent to you). If you just put your crosshairs on the enemy and fire, the tank always turns its hull and turret into alignment on the target.

Goblin

Ironfist -> You miss understand (4/6/2003 6:12:35 AM)

I mean when the tank is in defensive role and I have no control. Not durring my turn:D I have lost four armor units alone durring WC2003 to this one bug other wise my opponent would not have killed any tanks.

Goblin -> (4/6/2003 6:17:54 AM)

The tank shouldn't rotate its body... unless you mean Tank Destroyer with no turret? I don't see a way to avoid that; the vehicle must turn to fire. The only time my tanks actually turn their hulls on defense is if the enemy gets adjacent. If that is what you mean, then YES, they need to change it, lol. I understand the desire to put your heavy armor towards the adjacent threat, but if it is a sniper setting you up for a Wolverine, then I know where I want my armor...

Orzel Bialy -> Hmmm...AGAIN!!!! (4/6/2003 6:30:38 AM)

I have to AGREE WITH GOBLIN ONCE MORE....:D

I'm a Kat lover....when asked to take up a challenge I don't ever demand the King Tiger...nor even the late model over the early model...and I WILL NEVER ASK OR AGREE TO A RESTRUCTURE OF THE POINT VALUES!

I believe that you take what you are given and play with it...let the computer play the fickle hand of fate. Besides...I think highly enough of my commander skills that I go into each battle with the belief that I can navigate any commander rating to victory!:D :p ;)

As far as some brave soul taking an M4A1 into battle Goblin....:D :D :D :D :D U R a funny guy!!! There is a better chance of monkies flying out of Jess and/or Hawks backsides!!!

Squirmer -> (4/6/2003 7:42:03 AM)

I wasn't talking about restructuring the points values. The thing is you don't take what you are given, you buy what you want. Bit different ... Why don't the US have Elite armoured units for example? Heavy Panzers are always +10.

Anyway I wasn't trying to cause a stir. I'll just butt out, go and make a nice cup of tea and dream about 17 pdrs :rolleyes:

Bernie -> (4/6/2003 8:33:24 AM)

I agree with the idea of platoon vs platoon. A one on one tank battle often turns into pure luck, rather than the skill of the commander. As for scouts, of any kind, I say no. This was conceived as a way to find the "Top Tank" and driver, not the best SP:WAW player. If we allow scouts, then what kind of scouts? Where do we draw the line then? No, let it be a purely tank battle.

Squirmer, man, I was just poking fun, and mainly at M4(E8only)Jess, and Hawk. Don't you dare butt out, that isn't what this forum is about!;)

Also, Bernie has a good point...

Orzel Bialy -> Here here... (4/6/2003 9:30:15 AM)

Squirmer, please don't take the posts as personal attacks...they are not meant that way at all. ;)

Goblin, myself and a few of the Katz Commanders like to razz and ruffle the feathers of the M4 crowd....just to fire things up a bit and make things interesting.

Personally....I don't care if its 1 on 1 or platoon on platoon...I know my Katz will serve me well regardless. :)

No, I do it because they are weird, and you ALWAYS pick on the weird ones, don't you? :p :D

Speak for yourself, I like to consider myself an Equal Oppourtunity Picker... no one is safe from my comedic lash! :)

Do you mean that no one at these forums is safe? Because if you do, then my qualification applies also...:p

Goblin

Squirmer -> (4/6/2003 7:27:53 PM)

OK guys, no problem :) I just have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about the SPWAW purchase system - too limited and inflexible IMHO.

Consider the Royal Squirmin' Dragoon Guards ready for action. Platoon on platoon sounds cool :D

Ironfist -> Re: Flying Monkeys (4/6/2003 10:59:29 PM)

No Assault Tanks. I mean regular PanzersIII's through Panzer IV's and Panthers and Kingtigers. Dude I've been playing this game since 94.......:eek: And it's a tactic I see more than one Opponent use. I know how to use it too ,but I tend to drive my armor deliberately to their Flanks to get a 1 hex close assault shot to his side armor rating. I lose many tanks due to his support units but 9 times out of ten my armor will surive his first shot and then kill him. If I am unluckey enough not to kill him and I have another unit to assault from the front then I do. And 9 times out of ten His armor will sit there with their backs too me.:D Then they die a dishonorable death.
:mad: All because now it's my turn and he is defending.:)
PS: The figures above are only a rough estimate. But I see it often enough.

M4Jess -> (4/7/2003 9:21:44 AM)

I am lost :(

DO YOU PEOPLE WANT TO DIE OR WHAT????:p :rolleyes:

Ironfist -> Unit Types (4/7/2003 10:40:10 AM)

I will accept whatever Units everyone finds acceptable.

Belisarius -> (4/8/2003 1:58:07 PM)

Since there doesn't seem to be many M4s lined up for killing, I'll stand down until you guys are finished.

Then I want some! :mad:

I'll go with the Tiger IE, even vs. Easy8's... :rolleyes:

challenge -> (4/8/2003 11:17:18 PM)

How long are we going to debate all this? :rolleyes: *sigh*

I think we should stick with the original armor choices: favorite Kat (Panther, Tiger) verses any M4 the opposition chooses. A section or two of each is more than enough to make the point. I don't think cluttering up the field with platoons of armor will add anything. Recon, or other support, just clouds the issue; let's keep to the basics.

My only concern is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of people in the M4 group. Is it that there just isn't enough support for the poor creature, that no one except the die-hards think it's a worthwhile piece of armor, or are they just queezy about shooting their own for the play offs? :D

Things I'd like to know:
• Final number of vehicles
  • Number of turns
  • Has someone agreed to set up the scenario
  • Will it be 1 tank, 1 section, or 2 sections each
IMNSHO it should be at least two tanks. If we use two sections, keep all the Kat lovers happy with one section of Panthers and one of Tigers. Start positions, armor and the maps need to be the same for each fight on both sides although this could change for each round of the eliminations. For the final M4/Kat fight a new map or starting positions would make it where combatants would have to be adaptable as well as lucky.

    I've been ready for this series since the idea was first proposed. Now me want to kill something. Me want to earn wings for banner. :D

  • Klinkenhoffen -> (4/9/2003 4:48:42 PM)

    In Jesses thread " am I really alone", the number were split fairly evenly between Kats and M4's.

    Maybe all thoses M4 drivers are sissys:D

    Krec -> (4/15/2003 12:40:20 PM)

    ill drive some of those m4s boys, is it to late?:D

    Ironfist -> Additional Players (4/17/2003 2:02:24 PM)

    Good to see ya on board Krec. :) You guys better watch out ! He's a good Tanker. :eek:

    mogami -> rules (4/17/2003 11:36:29 PM)

    Hi, Are you guys using a equal number of tanks or points?

    Commander Klank -> Hey count me in...... (4/18/2003 10:54:34 PM)

    Hi guys...

    Is it too late to jump into this challange? I'd like to try a MkIIIm vs a m4 Sherman...

    But what ever you guys agree on is fine.

    Ironfist -> Units (4/20/2003 2:16:17 AM)

    I think it will either be two sections or two platoons And maybe two different types of Med. calibur or one type of med. and one type of large calibur. There's nothing writen in stone yet.....:rolleyes: But if you look at the other Messages you'll see what has been discussed so far.

    challenge -> How about a deadline (4/20/2003 3:08:51 AM)

    If we set a sign-up deadline and fix the starting date for the competion to begin we'll know how many people are on what side. Since it's supposed to be Side vs same side for the eliminations we can use concensus from each side to figure out what we're fighting with.

    We started this on the tird, so why not use 30 April as the sign-up date?
