The halftrack at level 3 fires and breaks a squad behind a building with several woods hexes hindering sight? Doesn't seem possible at 400+ yards.

Gerry4321 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 5:29:23 AM)

ASL itself has a minimum of one blind hex behind obstacles like buildings. After that it depends on elevation difference and distance.

idjester -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 5:42:12 AM)

Hard to believe because we look at it on a flat surface but those woods aren't even in the way. Your looking right over them without a problem. Your up so high you can't even see the bottom of those trees. Again I would say the same thing about the building. Your up high enough unless they are just up against the wall you can see them.

Height can play a big part in the game and seeing it 3D is hard.

Gerry4321 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 5:56:15 AM)

There is no way in a geometry sense this is possible. Plus you have to allow for the fact that they could be hugging the building.

Meroka37 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 7:48:15 AM)

In ASL actually there would be 3 hexes due to distance (1 per each 5 hexes) but as the firer is 2 levels higher than building the final blind  number of hexes would be 1, but always there is 1 blind hex no matter difference in level, so this attack should be not posible.

Paullus -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 8:39:02 AM)

One question Bradley62. Have you installed the Day Zero Patch?

DoubleDeuce -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 10:11:11 AM)

I do not have access to my TotH game to check using the LOS Tool at the moment but I wonder if its the same issue as in the Fired THROUGH a building bug post ??

Bradley62 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 2:36:16 PM)

I have Day Zero patch. Hill 621.

z1812 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 3:15:13 PM)

I too have noticed unrealistic and illogical LOS results. For instance in " with a little help from the stugs " one unit clearly fires through a stone building at another.

I find generally that terrain elements do not always affect LOS in a way that would be expected.

That's a computer issue, on the game LOS issue...

What issue exactly? I have been running all sorts of games without problems on my computer. If you are suggesting it is an individual's computer then please provide more information so the situation can be clarified.

gregb41352 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 8:35:04 PM)

Bradley62, what mod are you using for the terrain?

GregN -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 10:16:32 PM)

Same happened playing the Brits in "Last Stand in Tretten." The German ART on the hill hit units I thought were in the 'shadow' hex of buildings and woods. I didn't check LOS - was assuming SL/ASL rules. The LOS does not work like ASL in that regard. I am using ASL mod.

jeffdeham1 -> RE: LOS? (3/6/2016 10:45:59 PM)

There was a LOS bug reported similar to this. However the problem turned out to the be the MOD was slightly different than the standard icons. So while it looks like there isn't a LOS path there is in fact is. You could try reverting to the standard and see if the problem repeats itself.

idjester---

I find that kind of post incredibly unhelpful.

FroBodine -> RE: LOS? (3/7/2016 1:54:35 PM)

This is a very interesting thread so far. The programmer is saying that it's a computer issue. What does that even mean?

idjester is saying that that hex behind the building is visible because the viewer is so high up.

There is no way in SL or ASL (or most any other WWII hex game for that matter) that this hex should be visible from the viewer's hex.

Why are none of the developers responding to this issue?

Franciscus -> RE: LOS? (3/7/2016 2:15:58 PM)

Hi
The issue was caused by an error in the ASL mod, already fixed by Richie1, not in the stock game

That was a different problem from a different thread. This guy was using the VASL counter mod (note the white outline on the tank counter) which didn't have the same LOS mask issue.

Richie61 -> RE: LOS? (3/7/2016 3:12:45 PM)

Does this happen with the stock game images? I see VASL counters and modified terrain.

What scenario is it?

Ups, my bad. You are right, I was confusing things.
Sorry

z1812 -> RE: LOS? (3/7/2016 3:46:24 PM)

LOS is one of those aspects that can be frustrating in wargaming.

It seems that in TotH the LOS problems noticed so far have had to do with Mods.

It is unfortunate that the decision was made to place all of the graphic elements In one file.
That can make modding more difficult and finicky.

It would have been nice to have the Terrain, Units and Vehicles in separate files.

It does not help either that the LOS tool is not intuitive and convenient to use.

Having said that, I really like the game and I hope it will get the development
support that it needs.
