It seems the retreat logic is random, which causes units to make incredibly dumb retreats. Is there any way to address this in the first patch?

Seems that a units first choice should be to friendly area, then towards friendly areas, or back the way they came.

Thanks.

Do you have a specific example? Because armies should already retreat to friendly areas before retreating to hostile areas. But when an army can only retreat to a hostile area it doesn't follow what you or I might call a general line of communication. And that can lead to some odd choices.

It's possible, yes, once I see what exactly needs to be done. I don't know when the first patch will be, however.

Does an army retreat to a random friendly space or the space it came from? Would it be possible for us to choose? I had an army retreat and ended up within attacking distance of another army only to get attacked again.

Attacking armies (and fleets) which are defeated must retreat back to where they came from.

Yes. I had an army in Madrid (Spain). Another smaller army in Navarre. My Madrid army was attacked from Ashurias. It lost, and instead of retreating back towards France, or going to where another force was located, it retreated to Western Spain.

But, even if I had not had an army in Navarre, I would think the default should always be back toward France. So, to my way of thinking, the priority should be:

1. If attacking, back to the province it left.
Otherwise:
2. Toward France and if choices, to an area with friendly forces; or
3. Towards France, or if not possible:
4. Away from France, to an adjacent force; or
5. Finally, to any space available if none of the above work.

Thanks.

Makes sense.
