juvilado -> Oil/fuel reserve banish bug [SOLVED] (3/25/2016 11:02:09 PM)

Hi, playing several hotseat games, sometimes we sadly noticed that the reserves of some ppl just went to zero without any reason, sometimes the player had 12K oil at the end of turn and the next turn he had 0, other time a player ended with 600 oil and the fuel report said this:

Fuel Report: 625 at the ennd of last turn. 625 before production this turn. 0: After production this turn.

Supossely generating 4250 fuel per turn!

So this ruined our games at least twice. Its very annoying, does anybody have the same bug? Is there any way to solve it? We tried to edit the savegames for adding that lost fuel but didnt find any way, is there any?

It happened with 2.21k but i think it happened with previous versions too.

Could be a number of things going on.

For instance: If you have combat and the defending forces use up the fuel in defence.

Or: If you are using TO&E models, then the reinforcing of units might cause fuel usage, and thus use up all the fuel.

Or: It might actually be a bug.

We are quite sure it wasn't TOE (we weren't using them when it first started happening), and sometime the issue happened when the player was at peace, so no fuel should have been consumed between turns (and if it would have, never 12K fuel!). So sadly we are pretty sure it is some bug.

We could solve it by editing the savefile but we don't find any info in the internet for doing that. I assume this could be tricky because in pbem games people could change their savegames before sending...

I'd recommend that you keep playing that game and see if it straightens out next turn. I've played this game many many hours and have never had issues with oil (except there is never enough early in the game to do all I want to do). I'm not thinking there is a bug but could be wrong.

We went on and missing oil never came back in any case... There was just the normal production income.

FieldOfGlory -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/11/2016 10:45:37 PM)

I just had this happen to me in my video series. It happened when I accidentally reassigned a levelbomber unit as a dive bomber unit using the TOE feature. TOE moved all of my levels to my supreme HQ after I ended the turn and all my fuel was wiped out. I had 2700 on hand plus another 4500 that was to produced that turn. So I lost 7200 barrels. I think TOE may be using an obscene amount of fuel to move aircraft through the reinforcement chain.

FieldOfGlory -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/11/2016 11:21:54 PM)

Well I just tested my theory and could not recreate it. This appears to be some kind of random bug. I had fewer sub-formations being moved by TOE in that turn than previous turns that used very little fuel but this turn it got wiped out. I had no units that contained fuel burning sub-formations get attacked by AI and no aircraft that were involved in combat on the AI's turn. Absolutely no plausible reason for 7200 barrels to be used through normal game mechanics. Definitely a bug.

FieldOfGlory -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/12/2016 8:17:57 AM)

I was reviewing my taped video and it happened twice. once at the end of turn 9 and again at the end of turn 11. I lost a lot more on turn 11 though which is why I took notice.

Here is the video evidence if it helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyH5HD_ZIpQ

If you just jump to the end of the video you can see how I check my production before I end the turn and after I end the turn its all gone. In the video I check the log and the AI only attacked once. I had no fuel consuming units involved in combat and the number of sub-formations TOE moved around was less than most of my previous turns.

Vic -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/22/2016 7:56:35 AM)

Hi all,

I thought we squished this issue like a year ago. Its rare and hard to reproduce. So I could use some help to actually confirm it.

@FieldOfGlory + @juvilado
Do you please have a save game from which this is repeatable?
Ideally I need the turn before it happens. But just the turn it self would already be nice. Please send the file to vic@vrdesigns.net

@FieldOfGlory
Did you check the 'LOG' tab to see how much LANDCAP the different HQ's used to distribute TOE forces?

Best wishes,
Vic

FieldOfGlory -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/22/2016 8:43:08 AM)

So sorry Vic. I've been doing a manual saves every 2 turns and both times if happened was on the second turn after a save. Then I really screwed up because I had an auto save from the turn it happened. Then in my effort to recreate the bug I lost the original auto from the turn before it happened and as soon as I did it I knew that was a mistake.
So I'm very sorry I have nothing for you, but knowing what I know now if it happens again I will copy that auto save and make sure you get.

Vic -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/22/2016 11:05:29 AM)

Don't be sorry. It might just as well be a bug (as some misunderstood mechanic). Just please keep an eye out and rename that autosave when you see it again.

Best wishes,
Vic

Saros -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/25/2016 2:14:46 PM)

I think in a multiplayer game that we have figured out it is that using the Auto-TOE reinforce with planes uses hugely more fuel than it is suposed to, maybe 50-100x as much which totally wrecks fuel income.

Vic -> RE: Oil/fuel reserve banish bug (4/25/2016 3:58:42 PM)

Hi there,

Big thanks to the multiplayer group and Ben G. for figuring this one out and sending me those save files.

It turns out your analysis is correct. I set up some test games, eventually with only auto-reinforce for aircraft and bang. Indeed.

I have prepared an immediate hot fix 2.21M.

Download it here:
http://www.vrdesigns.net/privatepatch/AdvancedTacticsGold221m.zip

1. Rename your current AdvancedTacticsGold.exe to AdvancedTacticsGold_backup.exe

2. Copy the .exe file in the zip to the same directory.

3. Restart game

Now... pay attention this hotfix only works for the MATRIX version and does NOT work for the Steam version.

In multiplayer games your turn is calculated by the player before you. So for your oil TOE aircraft issue to be fixed the player before you needs to play his turn with v2.21M.

For Steam players (or in multiplayer: players with a Steam player passing them the turn) the workaround is to NOT use the TOE functionality for aircraft untill I can double confirm v2.21M fixes the issue and can issue an order to the publisher to make a Steam update as well.

Once again big big thanks for helping me solve this one.

Best wishes,
Vic
