DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/5/2016 9:39:54 PM)

Here is the GSASL stuff I tried to run ages ago that was in part of the Bulge fighting > > 87th Infantry Division GSASL Campaign

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/5/2016 10:18:05 PM)

Looks very interesting [&o]. If you already have the background material ready, we could give it a try in TotH.

I see you always select tough opponents (Panzer Lehr & 559th PzJag Abt with Jagdpanthers) for your victims (er... I mean, players [:)]).

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/5/2016 10:39:18 PM)

While I was researching the history of the 761st Tank Battalion I came across the 87th ID stuff and found their story pretty fascinating as well. The only thing with doing that as the theme is I really would like to have snow terrain in the game. Real snow, not just map recoloring.

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/5/2016 11:03:13 PM)

Some information for my fellow company commanders: I made some tests setting up 10 ATRs and firing to the front/side/aspect of several Russian tanks ("hits" indicate non-penetrating hits).

T-34 M40 :
Front / Side / Rear: no effect at all (not surprisingly [;)]).

T-26 M33/39:
Front: 1 Shock, 8 hits / Side: 2 Shock, 2 Immobilised, 6 hits / Rear: 5 kills, 4 hits

BT-5:
Front: 1 kill, 1 Immobilised, 7 hits / Side: 3 kills, 2 Shock, 3 hits / Rear: 5 kills, 1 Immobilised, 3 hits

If I remember correctly, "Immobilised" result might also be a kill, while "Shock" is caused by a score 1 higher than required.

I rolled really bad on your Activation checks, hardly any units got triggered but they did get some artillery iirc.

Yes they did, but it was mostly ineffective. I think they lost contact for good after one volley.

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/6/2016 1:13:09 PM)

Well, since both of you (okiefire_ssl and UP844) won it'll be on to a June 26, 1941 'Pockets' mission, clearing up Russian resistance in the sector.

NOTE: Still working on writing up the final rules and trying to make a sheet to track information that commanders can use to record everything. Trying not to make it a massive undertaking though but my OCD is getting in the way.

okiefire1 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/6/2016 1:25:36 PM)

That may help me. I just get completely immersed in the game and forget everything else. Next thing I know I'm in the last turns and have forgotten what just happened. [&:]

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/6/2016 1:43:19 PM)

All right; I'll put the guys through some extra training (something makes me think we are not going to meet the 4577th Provisional People's Militia Regiment armed with forks and clubs [:D]).

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/10/2016 11:39:26 AM)

I'll probably release the 1st Round missions sometime soon, maybe in the next 2 days or so once i get a few free minutes. Because of the GTotH format, none of them are 'balanced' and are not intended to be. They are also designed to be played as the Germans only.

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/12/2016 6:19:55 AM)

To 'test' the function of my new 'Mission Briefing' form, I will be including these with the scenario files for the final round 3 missions. Hopefully they will be sufficiently user friendly and I will tweak them again after they are seen by at least another set of eyes. [:D]

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/12/2016 10:40:50 PM)

Since no one else has stepped up to play the first mission for '1 CO/II BN/233 RGT/102 ID' I have uploaded it as a standalone scenario. You can find it in the Mods and Scenarios section in the thread named GTotH 1 CO/II BN/233 RGT/102 ID Mission # - Official.

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/12/2016 11:11:22 PM)

Let's see what's lurking in the woods [;)]

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/13/2016 12:03:47 AM)

Maybe that'll keep you busy while I work on your 3rd mission.

okiefire1 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/13/2016 4:37:35 AM)

Cool. Another GREAT AAR from UP844 will be coming soon![8D]

DoubleDeuce -> GTotH Test Campaign 3rd and final Missions (4/13/2016 10:04:31 PM)

UP844 and okiefire_ssl!

The Mission # 3 files for the GTotH Test Campaign are just about ready. This will be the FINAL mission of the campaign. For now we are proceeding with 2 and 3 Companies only. Briefing information will follow shortly.

Some changes for this last mission so I can tweak some stuff and test settings will be:

1. The DIFFICULTY setting for this last mission is to be set to "HARD".
2. The new fillable PDF Briefing and AAR .pdf form will be used. It's not complete as I am still working on what information to use and how to format it. Some things are editable, some not (basically if it has a light yellow background, it can be edited). This is intended to be a two way communication tool. It will provide the beginning mission and setup information and commanders can use it to refer to and make note of events from during the mission to save and report that back to me. If anyone has suggestions on what to add or is not needed, please feel free to let me know.

I will post the .txt file as before for each mission but this time, I will also attach your individual fillable PDF Briefing and AAR form.

The pdfs are super!

Lannes -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/14/2016 11:42:15 AM)

Yes great job. [sm=00000436.gif]

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/14/2016 3:26:51 PM)

Thanks for the feedback on the form.

Next, the Mission #3 files have been sent for both 2rd and 3rd Company Commanders so play them when you have time. As before, there is no rush. Now I get to take a break and finish up some scenario's I've been working on as well as get those GTotH rules finished up. [:D]

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/15/2016 9:29:26 PM)

I am ahead of my work schedule and I can spare a few hours, so I will go ahead with Mission #3!

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/15/2016 9:35:13 PM)

There are no German deployment hexes... [&:]. I tried an auto-deployment but the units remain listed with the plain font of undeployed units.

DoubleDeuce -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt - Official Information and AAR Thread (4/16/2016 5:46:23 AM)

Well, crap. I reset the scenario and sent the updated files via PM.

I played this one. Very tough mission! I managed to squeak out a Major Victory on the last turn winning the Melee that started on T15. Lots of CC with AFV and Squads in this one. It was touch and go for a while. Pretty good AI to assault Objectives to retake. Thanks for your work, DD. Impressive stuff, sir!

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/21/2016 6:58:27 PM)

I just finished playing Mission #3, ending with a Minor Victory (more on this). Should I send the saved game at the end of the scenario, or is the filled PDF enough?

I wiped out the Russian to the last man and took all the three VP hexes, losing one HS in the process (and having two squads CR'd to HS, one of which subsequently became my only casualty) but I only got 30 VP and a Minor Victory. This happened because most squads are not eliminated by a single fire, but are first CR'd to HS. I actually eliminated 3 squads, 13 HS, 6 leaders and 1 crew. I have not opened the scenario in the Editor, but I noticed a lot of CR as a result of fire.

To counter this in my scenarios, I am thinking about awarding more than half the value of a full squad (e.g. 2 points for a HS, 3 for a full squad).

Final note #1: I NEVER fired the ATRs because I was constantly waiting for AFVs... but there was none [;)]

Final note #2: The game ended on turn #11 when the last Russian unit was eliminated because of Failure to Rout, so I cannot confirm the possible failure of the variable end feature.

Send both please. I am using the completed missions to walk through documenting my processes for replacements, refitting and stuff like that.

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (4/21/2016 8:49:58 PM)

Here are the filled PDF form and the saved game.

A full (and illustrated [:D]) AAR will be available in a few days: I took a pause this afternoon, but I'm still very busy and I have little spare time.

UP844 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (5/3/2016 1:28:10 AM)

A bit late, here is the plan for the third (and last) scenario of the experimental GTotH campaign.

The bitter fighting of the first two scenarios had a mixed effect on the 3rd Company:
> its current strength is 75% of the established TO&E (it currently fields 3 platoons instead of 4)
> some losses have been replaced by second-line personnel, not fully trained to the standards of regular infantry
> on the other hand, part of the company is now formed by hardened veterans, and the leaders have gained much experience about dealing with the Red Army.

Since our mission is essentially a mopping-operation and no strong opposition is expected, the Battalion HQ has retained the MGs of the Heavy Weapons Company.

Phase 1:
Since we managed to deploy in close proximity with the enemy, Groups "A" and "B" start with heavy suppression fire on the objective fortified building;
Group "C" moves forward, to provide fire support the subsequent assault.
Group "D" moves to the woods and start harassing any Russian forces near the southern objective

Phase 2:
Group "A" secures the southern end of the bridge and provide support for Group "B"
Group "B" assaults the fortified building after the defenders are neutralised
Group "C" provides support for Group "B", then moves south to attack the objective there
Group "D" moves to the hill to better support Group "C".

Phase 3:
Group "A" crosses the river and attack the buildings on the north side
Group "B" advances to the south side of the river and provides support to Group "A"
Group "C" once the southern objective is conquered, initiates an enveloping move to encircle any Russians holding the northern objective.
Group "D" provides fire support as needed by the tactical situation

Phase 4:
Group "B" crosses the river and take position south-west of the northern objective
Group "C" continues its enveloping move

Phase 5:
Groups "A", "B" and "C" converge on the northern objective.

The AAR will follow as soon as possible.

Wow guys, very impressive! I hope matrix games releases the UPDATE1 soon. I'm already starting work on UPDATE2!

I really like following this thread :)

Cheers!

Gerry4321 -> RE: Group Tigers on the Hunt (Test Campaign)- Official Information and AAR Thread (5/3/2016 2:49:26 AM)

Peter:
Will there be new features in Update2 or just slight enhancements/fixes?
Thanks,
Gerry
