jediael -> Ground Support with Aircraft against forest not halved? (3/28/2016 2:54:02 PM)

Hi all,

I have a quick question about (M)WIF:

Barbarossa scenario turn 1, impulse 1.

I attack a forest hex as Germany with a total of 36 factors against opponents 12. I use aircraft for ground support, for a total of 24. As the opponents units are in a forext hex, per the WIF terrain effects chart, the tactital factors of the aircraft should be halved, but this is no the case, in total I get 60 factors for 5:1 as opposed to 12 for a 4:1.

Is the an issue with the game, or am I missing something?

Thanks,
jediael

Maybe you're not counting that in Surprise, the ground support points are doubled?

Many other things happen in surprise, it would be interesting (in case you didn't know it) to know that also, if you want to use your planes in Ground Strikes instead, you get two rolls instead of one, each.

Thanks, that settles it :) Will read up on surprise once more.

:)

You get this double support fire in Surprise with ground artillery as well...

Hi all,

as I don't want to create a new thread for each question, here is another one that I am sure you can help me with:

I am currently still playing the Barbarossa campaign. I have two Russian Units semi-encircled and they are out of supply, but still organized.

1) Is it correct that if I attack them, they fight as usual, without penalty?
2) If I attack them and don't cause them to retreat/die/shatter, they will stay organized after the fight?
3) So it would be a good strategy to ground strike them with aircraft first, before attacking?
4) Is there any other way I can force them to become disorganized? Afaik artillery bombardment can do this if the option is enabled?

All the best,
jediael

paulderynck -> RE: Ground Support with Aircraft against forest not halved? (3/29/2016 11:18:36 PM)

1) yes
2) depends, if defender loses more than the attacker, the surviving defenders are disorganized, so FREX a "-/1" would work for that
3) yes, definitely
4) artillery can ground strike if adjacent, at the same as (and if weather permits) as aircraft can

Nothing to dissent from Paul, just I would like to add that the penalty for those OOS units, although in 1) they don't suffer from lower combat stats, they still have important penalties:

quote:

Land units
A land unit that is out of supply:
ï can’t attack;
ï must be turned face-down if you move it (even by naval transport or air transport);
ï defends with 1 combat factor if it is a face-down division (see 22.4.1) or non-white print unit, 3 if it is a face-down white print unit (face-up units defend with their normal strength); and
ï option 13: can’t provide HQ support (see 11.16.3).
Out of supply land units still have their normal movement allowance and still exert a ZOC.
