Froz -> Overwrited saves corrupted (3/31/2016 5:21:37 PM)

It seems that overwriting a previous save will corrupt it. When I load such save, it seems it contains some information from the new save and some from the old one.

In my recent example, I have a save that I overwrited after I conquered Russia. I have not much troops left. However, when I load that save, everything on the map looks like from much older save (probably the one I overwrote), but the current turn date is the same and Russia is neutral power towards me. Ottoman is also neutral, but the army positions are so that I remember at the time Ottomas were my allies and were fighting Russian units, which are on their territory.

Fortunatelly I can get my correct game from autosave, so it's not a big deal.

works fine for me, have you installed to the default location?

steam or site version?

do you have the above save?

Default installation. Steam version. Yes, I have the file still, but autosaves which were correctly are already auto-overwritten, so you won't be able to compare. I can't find a way to upload the file here, should I send it by e-mail somewhere?

save it for now as the developers may ask if needed, thanks for the report

A handful of players have reported some odd problems with saved games. I do note that they are all playing the Steam version.

I am not able to reproduce this problem myself. Just for curiosity's sake: do you play with the Steam Overlay active?

Let me ask you a couple of questions.

1. If you save a game and do NOT overwrite it later, does that game load normally?

2. You said that the "autosaved" games are loading normally. That is odd. When you were doing your own regular saves, when did you make them? Before clicking on the "Calendar" button?

If you need to email things to me, please feel free to PM me here on Matrix. You may also use the email address embedded in this post.

I am looking into this, although I don't have any hot leads right now.

Thank you for checking this. I don't have much more details for you right now. But as I continue playing I will try to test those things. So far it is only this one save that got corrupted (but it is also the only save I have, except the autosaves).

Yes, I use steam overlay, as it's default, I didn't change anything about it.

1. I haven't checked it recently, but I think when I created that save file for the first time, it worked correctly. I didn't notice anything wierd then.
2. Just to be precise, I only used french_autosave, not the other one. Everything looked fine each time I used it. As for my own save, I always did it just before quitting the game, at least I don't recall doing them and then continue playing. So I didn't hit calendar button afterwards, I would save and quit.

Right now I'm after my first playthrough, I will try to test it more on my second, but I'm not sure when I'll have time for that.

Thanks for the info. Naturally I am sorry that you have had to work around this problem while playing the game.

I would suggest deleting the old save entirely and starting with a new save. And I don't mean to start a new game (unless you want to). I mean, first load your last good saved game.

Just a reminder to everyone, here's how to delete a saved game: start by using the Save Dialog (hotkey s) or by navigating to the Save Game Menu. Select the particular game from the list and then click on the Delete button. That should remove that file entirely.

Then you can save your current game (using the old name if you like) and that might take care of the problem.

I already finished that game, so it's not an issue for me anymore. I wanted to test it with the new campaign, but well, I managed to win after 2 years in one go :p. I'll follow your instructions in the future though. Thanks.
