You know, I'm rather a gourmand of porn actresses, but the only ones I knew of were "Puma Swede" and "Nikki Benz", neither of which I am a fan of. I guess I'm going to have to study harder for my PSATs. That's an acronym for Porn Star Actress Test.

Hooray! The thread header has returned to the subject of ponderous things to ponder, like these:

Yes I'd noticed that, full of coffee, orange and strawberry soft-centres that always go first, leaving the rubbish nut ones and white chocolate to the end because no one likes them....

That pic deserves a DOUBLE post.

Last night I woke up screaming from a nightmare.

Dreamed I was a baby... Dolly Parton was my mother....and.... I WAS BOTTLE-FED!!!. [sm=scared0008.gif].

Steel rimmed twas that bra ... Nothing else could have bared the overhung mass

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/1/2016 8:31:22 PM)

Speaking of mass, Über is testing out self driving cars. Really. An empty car drives up, you get in and it takes you where you're going. What's going to happen if a cop tries to pull one over? Bad things. Errors in judgement. Bigotry against cars with no drivers. With that in mind I'm trying to start an organization called "Self-Driving Car's Lives Have Mass and Occupy Space". Won't you help? For just 25˘ a day a car like Herbie (shown here)will get a fill up, a wash and wax job and an oil change.

You may recall that Mr. Newt Gingrich wanted public school kids to handle all the custodial work at their schools. Well, it's happened again. While he was watching a Flintstones program a stroke of genius struck him. Baby carriages that double as lawn mowers! Each carriage would have a pair of pedals for the infant to work which would spin the blades that would cut the grass. Talk about green engineering!

What about road rage shootings? With no driver in the Über car the shooter would be forced to shoot at the passenger!

Über should be required to install bullet proof glass and side panels on all of these things.

Or an auto-automatic rooftop weapon that shoots at the sound of gunshots. People whose cars backfire would get them fixed tout-suite!

Your car will take you directly to jail for any "CRIME".

How does a cop give a ticket to a driver-less car?

btd64 -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/2/2016 1:14:13 AM)

The cop inserts it in the slot next to the speed indicator.[sm=character0229.gif]....GP

Heard a noise outside the back door today and saw this. The bird stayed there long enough for me to take several pictures. It was splashing around in the water in the gutter.

Canoerebel -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/4/2016 3:05:10 AM)

That's a northern flicker, Bill.

wdolson -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/4/2016 4:20:21 AM)

Thanks, I couldn't remember the name. They like to hammer on the gutter to get attention from other flickers. We have a lot of bird species around here.

Bill

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/4/2016 11:06:34 PM)

Excuuuuse me! That's a Western Flicker. The northern has a red patch on the back of the head, both males and females.

[image]local://upfiles/37002/323023649FCF481BA03E236E6976002A.jpg[/image]

As you can see, the Northern has a black marking coming back from the bill, whereas the Western has a red marking instead. In Bill's pic it looks kinda rusty but if it weren't splashing around in a dirty clogged gutter it should be as bright as the marking on the Northern.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/4/2016 11:15:27 PM)

Here's a Western that took its bath in a clean bird bath.

Here's the best site I know of to identify birds: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/Page.aspx?pid=1478#_ga=1.63474351.122329799.1475619371

BillBrown -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/4/2016 11:58:37 PM)

The Gorn really knows his birds. They must be a Gorn delicacy.

Canoerebel -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 12:15:58 AM)

The Gorn is wrong. The bird is a northern flicker. There is no such thing as a "western flicker."

What the Gorn was reaching for was undoubtedly dim memories that once the northern flicker was treated as two species, the red-shafted in the west and the yellow-shafted in the east. But the two were combined into one a good 20 years or more back. The color of the mustache (malar) near the mouth is black for northern flickers found in the east and red for those found in the west.

Edited to add: only the males have a malar.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 1:46:03 AM)

Oops, Canoerebel is right. The Northern Flicker, in the west where Bill is, is called the Red Shafted Flicker (as though it was a subspecies) while the one I'm familiar with is called the Yellow Shafted Flicker. There's also the Gilded Flicker but it's extremely unlikely to be seen in Oregon.

Canoerebel -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 1:52:47 AM)

Yer getting' closer, but yer stumblin' a bit in tryin' to adjust to the ornithological changes that have meddled with your memory. There is no longer a "red-shafed flicker" and a "yellow-shafted flicker." Twenty or so years ago, the two were combined into one, the northern flicker.

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 1:55:36 AM)

Here's another way I don't know my birds. They're identifying them in the pics as male or female. I don't know how to tell them apart. I'll have to investigate that.

Canoerebel -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 1:58:22 AM)

The males have the malar (mustache) - red in the western variety, black in the eastern. The females don't have the malar.

Canoerebel -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 2:00:14 AM)

Disregard x 1

geofflambert -> RE: OT Things to ponder (10/5/2016 2:00:23 AM)

OK, with the female Red-Shafted there are no red markings at all. So the one in Bill's pic is a male. The female Yellow-Shafted has the same red marking as the male but has more gray on the crown.
