hammer58 -> Very Interesting scenario! (4/6/2016 7:43:37 AM)

I just started a new game. Universe edition.
Now for the strategy of this start.
I started pre-warp.
And another empire also started in MY SYSTEM.
I have 4 planets with relics on them.
I have 2 abandoned ships and 2 repairable abandoned ships in my system.
I can not build any mining stations and neither can he until one of us is gone.
Because we have overlapping fields of influence of exactly the same size.
So I can not even go out of my system for any resources, until I can build a colony out of system.
Both of us are stuck with starting resources.
And a pirate already showed up and demanded so much cash from me that my economy cash flow is in the red already.
I suppose his is as well. It will be an arms race to see who can build enough to keep the other at bay long enough to
annihilate the other. While fending off pirates in the mean time.
A construction ship is only useful to repair the damaged abandoned ships. Until the other guy is gone.
What to do?

Hmm, Not sure if this is good or bad. The private sector kicked in and is clogging up the build queue, and using up limited resources.
But it is also giving me cash that I badly need. Jury is out on this at this time.

My race is Haakonish and the other guy is Naxxilian.
He was not able to pay the pirate demand and they destroyed his space port.
A lucky break for me at the moment.

Use explorers to search your system and the 4 old ships to find the warp bubble tech. Once you have that, and the next tech after it, explore the systems around you for your resources. Updated your constructors and mine some planets. ...GP

I discovered a bug. The game designers never planned for my situation.
My problem is each time the pirates show up in my system I have to renegotiate a protection pact with them.
Because the other race does not have a protection agreement with the pirates.
So every time they show up they become hostile to everything in the system including me and ignore the protection agreement I have with them.
Which then forces me to negotiate a new protection agreement to stop there attack. Of course they keep getting more upset with me every time I do this as they think I am breaking the pact.
So the cost keeps increasing.

As for mining planets in a nearby system I doubt that will work as the influence sphere is the same for me and the other empire race in my system.
I will have to settle a new planet outside of the influence sphere to increase my influence range to new areas of the galaxy then I will be able to mine for resources.
It will be quicker I think just to capture/destroy the other empire races home world in my system. The question becomes can I do it with the limited resources I have on hand?

Hey hammer58, Wow! What a pickle. The only solution I can see is to try and acquire the two abandoned (functioning) ships with your explorer. Hopefully they have troop compartments. If they don't, your probably screwed. If they do, you can use them to invade your neighbor. They will give you a bonus of "Space Superiority" when you do. You will also need them to ferry reinforcements for you invasion and the inevitable revolt. If they are powerful enough, you could have a nasty surprise waiting for the pirates when they return. [:)] Again, just my suggestion based on what I understand of your situation. Good luck! And the worst that'll happen is you get to play a new game soon.

Ok guys my plan was to research bombardment build a few bombers also research troops transports build some of those. Grab some ground troops and go over to the enemy planet bomb his ground forces into oblivion then invade with my ground troops and conquer that planet. I do not yet have hyper drives and the ships I acquired do not have hyper drives either or any other useful components for this plan.
So I build everything I need and off I go. My bombers get into orbit on the enemy planet and they refuse to bomb it!?? WHA????? I thought I had a handle on this game. Every time I think that the game throws me a curve ball. So guys help what do I need to do to get my bombers to bomb? I am at war with the enemy planet so what else is there? Stumped......

indeed a harsh situation, but highly stimulating [:D]

Ok I figured out my problem. To bomb one has to hold down the shift key to enable the bombing mission. So once I figured that out then it was a simple matter bomb the planet till his troops are dead and invade. I did reduce the quality of the planet to 72% during the bombing but that is ok. Now I have two home world size population planets in my starting system before I even finished research on warp drives.
Now I can also build mining stations in my starting system. And I got all the starting supplies of a second home world. Lucky for me the Naxxilian to not object to my race to much so happiness is not going to be a problem on this planet. If you ever get a start like this in your game I highly recommend this approach. It will be a bit tough at first but the rewards will propel you to the top very fast once you complete the capture of the other home world.
