What a ****. I completely missed the river [8|]. So, I can go back and re-do all the movement - including the Soviets (boring) or I can assume I moved the 3-3 Militia into the mountains. Rather than the former - which is just nuts, how about I roll assuming 10:1 (if the fractional doesn't work) and manipulate the result I should have got? The penalty for this is that I will move the Sian Militia back to Sian next impulse before sending it anywhere else. Reasonable?

Edit: Okay I'll just roll as is. There is no factional roll apparently so ignore that one.

Welcome to the club. I quite frequently launch attacks having committed the cardinal sin of failing to recon the battlefield first.

To be fair it was not my fault, I mean how could I possibly be expected to know that that great fat blue thing clearly located between my GARR and the enemy INF was a river? I mean seriously?

Jul/Aug 1942
Impulse: 1 (Allied)

Air rebase:
Commonwealth

- A beaufighter unit continues its progress to Bombay
- A tank-busting Typhoon flies from the UK to Bilbao, as does a long-range Mosquito. Completing the rebases to the Basque capital is a Harrow ATR that is ordered to fly from Tunis.

France

- The French heavy bombers move out from Algiers and head to the border with Tunisia.

United States

- A Mustang is unloaded at Liverpool
- A Mitchell bomber group transfers from India to southern Burma

Soviet Union

- The Soviets have too many things to do and not enough allowance. A Lend-Lease Hurricane is switched from Zhukov's front to support the defence of the Ukraine.
- Scrapping the barrel now, an old biplane unit full of I-153's, heads for the Crimea.
- The third and last move is difficult but, learning from the loss of the Mongolian cavalry, Koniev demands that both his fighter groups must be mutually self supporting and that they can cover all units within his command. A MiG fighter unit is therefore sent west to the banks of the River Liao.

HQ Reorganization:
Commonwealth

- In the UK Alexander reorganises a Mosquito, a Spitfire, a Wellesley and a Sunderland.
- In North Africa Wavell is used to reorganise the two Lancaster units of Bomber Command.

It surely cannot be long before the Iberian Peninsular springs into life....

J/A 42 Axis 2

Germany land, Italy and Japan combined.

Germany flies Fw-190 to Biscay 2-box.

Italy flies C.205V from Sicily to East Med 2-box.

Italian sub sails from Bremen to Norwegian Sea 2-box.

3 CA's and 2 CP's sail from Osaka to China Sea. do the Allies wish to intercept?

Yes. Use the 4 strength submarine in the 2-box.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:07:12 AM)

The intercept fails on a 7.

2 CA's stay in the 4-box. 1 CA and the CP's continue to South China Sea 0-box.

Japan sends subs to Bay of Bengal 3 and 4 boxes and Cape Naturalist 2-box.

Several areas for naval combat. China Sea will be declined. when it gets to it, I presume the Allies will want to initiate?

No, thank you, on the China Sea. Allies do not want to initiate naval combat there at this point.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:13:08 AM)

First up, Cape Naturaliste.

Searches: Axis 7, Allies 9. No combat.

Bay of Bengal

Allies have 3 air units available. Blenheim to 3-box. NAV to 1-box, Hurricane to 0-box.

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:18:20 AM)

The Indian vengeance (NAV2) to the 0-box, thank you.

Edit: The US Naval bomber to the 4-box if it can reach it. Otherwise it remains at the base.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:20:06 AM)

Apologies, the US could also send a Catalina to the 4-box and/or B-25 up to the 2-box on extended range.

Edit: Just read above post. PBY flies to 4-box.

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:20:56 AM)

The US Catalina to the 4-box.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:25:05 AM)

Searches: Axis 6, Allies 3.

I include both subs and choose naval air on the Allies behalf. 4 surprise points to maximise damage. How would the Allies like to place the D?

[image]local://upfiles/47730/F5B79DD829E4490EB5F2735B2AB6D64C.jpg[/image]

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:30:13 AM)

Damage on the 4 strength submarine. Allies stay.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:33:27 AM)

The Japanese get the run of the damage rolls.

[image]local://upfiles/47730/8467D3A53CC149509F4C70D92D89D9FA.jpg[/image]

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:53:19 AM)

The Japanese also stay.

Searches: A pair of 7's. No combat. The Jap sub aborts to Hainan.

Norwegian Sea.

The Italian subs are clumsy and get caught on the surface by the Allied escort.

Searches: Axis 9, Allies 2.

I hope the Allies approve of this logic. 6 surprise points used to increase damage to 2D, A. 8 surprise points would have given an X but should the sub survive, it would get another round. This will likely still kill it and guarantee seeing it off should the sub get lucky. If you would have simply gone for the X, I am happy to re-roll.

warspite1 -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:56:16 AM)

I would have gone for the max to kill it, but genuinely, if its a ball-ache to re-do then lets go with it as it is.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 11:56:51 AM)

No problem, will re-do.

warspite1 -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 12:01:16 PM)

Okay if your sure - but you don't have to.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 12:03:20 PM)

The sub pays the price for lax searching.

I think I know what the problem was.....

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 12:11:47 PM)

Eastern Med

The Italian fighter initiates and the Italians fly two NAV's to the 2-box.

The Allies can fly a fighter from Malta up to the 1-box. Lancs from North Africa could also join in but wouldn't serve much purpose. Does the Hurricane fly?

[image]local://upfiles/47730/0AA0B056101A4331922C8A6E1E4F3113.jpg[/image]

warspite1 -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 12:17:51 PM)

The Indian air force squadrons are ordered into the air and fly to the 0-box in a desperate did to protect the merchant shipping in the Eastern Mediterranean.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 12:22:16 PM)

Searches: Axis 8, Allies 1.

Allies have 7 surprise points. Avoid combat?

Orm -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 12:48:17 PM)

Yes, avoid combat.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 1:11:41 PM)

The Italian naval air arm showing themselves as adept at searching as their undersea brethren, allows the Allied shipping in the East Med to ply its trade unmolested.

At this point the Italians realise, with the Germans having taken a land impulse, they too should have sent planes to Biscay [sm=nono.gif]. Just about sums up a pretty dismal naval phase.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 1:30:31 PM)

Ground strikes

Ju87D in hex 55,54 attacks Odessa. Ju87B in hex 52,55 attacks Kiev. The Soviets have two fighters that could intercept at Kiev. The Germans have three that could counter-intercept.

warspite1 -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 1:37:13 PM)

The Soviet air force is ordered to stay on the ground at this stage of a summer turn..... No interception thank-you.

AllenK -> RE: 4 player E-mail: AAR (11/4/2017 1:53:25 PM)

Kiev goes well.

As does Odessa.
