We are drawing near to a new edition of Home of Wargamers, a now traditional event for Slitherine and Matrix Games developers. It will be held from May 9th to May 11th at Castello di Pavone, a beautiful medieval castle located in Northern Italy.

Having built on previous experiences from the past years, this year’s Home of the Wargamers is looking to be the perfect Slitherine family gathering. The conference will be an occasion for some of Slitherine’s key development partners and special guests to meet and discuss strategy and wargames.

It will be three days of presentations and unique workshops covering all aspects of the business, a vibrant environment in which fresh ideas are confronted and exchanged. Many announcements will be made, most importantly though, it will be a great opportunity to debate about the future of a very vibrant new era in wargaming and strategy gaming!

You can be part of it! Ask us anything on Twitter, Facebook and on the forums, and we’ll answer during the conference. The conference will be filmed and later uploaded on Youtube, so don’t miss the chance to be part of it and help us shape up the future of wargaming!

Stay tuned and watch out for further information on Home of the Wargamers 2016, and check the official site here!

my only question and feedback is almost the same as last years, can we make or develop the future game to be more new player oriented, as appealing to the last buyers only is a poor long term plan, it's newer players that's needed as we aren't getting any younger so it's fresh blood that needed.

so more help for the newer player, in guides, tips, tool tips in game, better tutorials and more information on units types and ability etc etc, grogheads wants a manual a mile thick, newer players just need more basic help from the start so aren't put off, no matter what game it is...

Improving first impressions, tutorials and approachability has been a focus for some time but it does take a number of years for all these things to work their way in.. Hopefully you're starting to see the benefit in some of the new releases.

it's getting there, but my opinion is there is still a long way to go to get the new players into most games with what's in them atm, as most still find it rather hard compared to other types of games on offer, manuals and hint sheet's only teach so much, where as video and streams imo offer more, maybe add them into the games in future, as the medium is there, either on DL or DVD, as most are almost empty and DL still rather small compared to some games etc, so space is there to be used, just a thought tbh[&o]

Yes there is certainly still a lot to do. Its on an ongoing battle!

Nomada_Firefox -> RE: Home of Wargamers 2016 Be part of it! (4/26/2016 11:23:52 AM)

Do you go to show any game at development?

IainMcNeil -> RE: Home of Wargamers 2016 Be part of it! (4/29/2016 2:02:15 PM)

The event is about meeting the developers, running workshops and that kind of thing, not a press event to show off games. However the developers will be showing the games in development to each other. There wont be any game specific announcements from the event.

Nomada_Firefox -> RE: Home of Wargamers 2016 Be part of it! (4/29/2016 11:39:19 PM)

From your words.....we will not know nothing about any game, if it is correct. What is the point for the players about to know this meeting? because I do not see nothing interesting.[&:]

Can we see more innovation in the future now Decisive Campaigns has shown they way and proved being innovative doesn't mean losing players..infact quite the opposite. Also it's massively beneficial to Wargames in general.

They made the announcement on Matrix, AgeOD, and Slitherine because players can participate here on the forums can influence the discussions all the developers will be having at this conference. The players can offer their suggestions, thoughts, and ideas that could be beneficial to discuss in this productive meeting.

Nomada_Firefox -> RE: Home of Wargamers 2016 Be part of it! (5/9/2016 8:54:01 AM)

If we do not know what they are exactly making...........how can you make a correct suggestion?;)

CapnDarwin -> RE: Home of Wargamers 2016 Be part of it! (5/9/2016 10:19:32 PM)

The idea is to provide broad ideas or questions. That we are making a Steampunk WW1 game is irrelevant when it comes to the basic questions of:

1. What user interface elements work best for you?
2. What games have a good or bad UI?
3. If you think a game has a bad UI what would you do to fix it?
4. Should we have a tutorial? Should it be interactive? What should it cover? Do you find tutorials helpful?
5. Do you read or use game manuals? What makes a good or bad one? How much detail should they have?
Etc., etc. [;)]

These developer sessions at the HOWs focus on these types of general elements. What units are in my game is not really a topic and is better left to be discussed in the forums in the Upcoming Games section.

Nomada_Firefox -> RE: Home of Wargamers 2016 Be part of it! (5/10/2016 5:25:19 AM)

And I say you.

1. Where?
2. How?
3. When?

;)

Using that as a point. No WW1 Steampunk game in our pipeline. For now. [;)]
