1 shot and I may be able to take out that mortar holding the town centre or I may have to spend half the game trying to destroy it :) A great movie had a line in it that I won`t try to quote , but the general idea was- I can be in a bombproof dugout and die in the first shot or I can lay in the open for days and not get touched. dice based games give that feeling

I have had a few games that have come down to me winning Melee on an objective hex on the last turn.

When playing " First Crisis in Army group North" . The German 88 malfunctioned on its first shot. My tanks just rolled past the rest of the Germans. Easy win but wasn't very challenging.
But all games come down to some form of luck. I prefer this to the style of game where damage accrues in increments so 10 shots from a pz3 will do the same cumulative damage as 1 pz6. Where in reality only a very lucky shot from the pz3 would damage the kv1. I think the dice element models this quite well

Let's not forget those nice moments when your fire finally - after several attempts - has some effect on an enemy unit in a high-TEM terrain... and the result you read is "Battle Hardening" [8|].

Ya those make for some fun times! I remember Shooting at a inf just to have it go berserk and win the game...could not have won otherwise (extra movement).
