NewportGames -> Fighting One War at a Time (4/25/2016 10:15:18 PM)

Most of the minor powers are gone now and what is left have Mutual Defense treaties or Protectorates with each other.

Declaring war on anyone starts a galaxy wide war!

I try to not fight more than one power at a time and prefer to divide and conquer. The question is how do I do this when everyone has banded together to defend themselves from me.

The trick is to get one of the powers to declare war on my empire and not the other way around which negates the Mutual Defense treaties.

Last night the Kadians decided to declare war on a minor power which by the way I wanted to incorporate within my empire. But if I had declared war on the Kadians I would have to violate my principle of one war at a time and I would have to fight the entire galaxy. Which by the way I probably could have won.

First thing was to stop my mutual defense treaty with the Kadians, then stop their military refueling rights and mining rights. Finally I hit them with trade sanctions. The Kadians are rattled a bit now. They went from trusted ally to who knows what in a few brief clicks of the mouse. Then I attacked one of their fleets and then the game kicks in with a recommendation to commit a raid on their empire "to teach them a lesson". It doesn't take long for their fleets to reverse course for home and for them to declare war on me. Now I do not have to worry about fighting the galaxy and have my war on a single empire.
