Attached you'll find a zip file with a hotfix for War in the East. This is only for those using the 1.08.09 Public Beta version. Unzip this into the Gary Grigsby's War in the East directory (this is just an exe update). Sorry for the inconvenience. The changes are:

Bug fixes
1. Fixed a bug where units could receive more replacements than asked for if there was a surplus of resources (all were used and dispatched to units).
2. Fixed a bug where units could retain more matched equipment than desired. They will now immediately return enough not to exceed 125% of TOE needs (this limit scales with MAX TOE down to 100% for MAX TOE set to 80% or less).
3. Fixed a bug where formation inventory was not displayed correctly if the list of units in the first tab was sorted.
4. Fixed a bug where self-propelled weapons, armored cars and self-propelled artillery were displayed in the infantry tab of formation inventory, even though they were included in the AFV totals.
5. Fixed a bug where an empty unit details window was displayed after closing Commander’s Report in some circumstances (only when using regular exit button).

I assume this hotfix fixes the bug that sillyflower was mentioning in his current AAR (Death of Sillyflower, which is using 1.08.09 and which they just started)? Here is what sillyflower said about the bug...

'I fear that the .09 replacement bug will force a restart, as I have 3 pages' worth of units between 100-188% TOE.Several of these aren't isolated but can't escape, so I told Michael I'm happy to carry on if he lets them out'

This fixes that right?

Yes, it fixes the issue and extra elements will return to the pools for future use, provided they can do so.

Can you please provide Public Beta hotfix 1.08.10 download file which does not require steam_api.dll as I do not have steam version of game and play game without internet access?

I have the game installed via 1.0 WitE installer, two expansion installers and 1.08.08/09 patch installers. And I have this file in my game directory.

I don't think this file is super-secret, because it's part of public Steam API. Therefore I give you a link to download it: here. Put it in game directory if it is missing. Also make sure you run the game with admin rights.

I suggest you reinstall the game, because at one point this file was added to patch installers and should be there (I guess somewhere around 1.08.05).

Game is using the same exe for all versions. It looks like you trying to run it not from the game folder.

This hotfix is not an installer, but just an exe which needs to be copied to the game folder manually.

I had no problem getting this file to download and work. I don't use steam.

If I were to recall correctly, and I probably don't then...

If you try to transfer the hotfix file into the game ala transferring PBEM files, that doesn't work.

If you click "run" in the lower left hand of your main display screen, after the download is in the hard drive, or, double left-click "run" or "open" in the hard drive directory (downloads section) that does work.

Had it all written down but alas, as with all other written notes, that has disappeared into the ether.

Will continue to watch forums for some clarification, and, if not forthcoming will bumble around, clicking this and that, just like any other computer moron. Sigh :)

OK, lost on how to get this to work.

Don't use steam

I copied the attachment in the first post of this thread, named my old 'warintheeast.exe' to 'warintheeast_old.exe' and copied in the new 'warintheeast.exe' to my main War in the East directory (where the old .exe was).

Started the game as normal using the newly copied in 'warintheeast.exe' and the game starts up fine, but it still says 1.08.09 in the upper left corner of the screen inside the game.

What am i doing wrong?

I see the same on startup - .09 in upper left. Look here:

That is correct for a hotfix. Only Exe version changes.
