Is it possible to start the campaign starting date, or is it as hardcoded as it appears to be ?

Unfortunately, there is no support for dates earlier than June 22nd 1941. Various strange things could happen if you would set an earlier date (if it's at all possible), and setting the date to 1940 or earlier could crash the game.

Yes I agree a May start was the original date - it would make a good mod.
