Sale this month on games. Can someone explain the 20 percent off on extended download service? I have no clue what they mean

Also, any of these games downplaying anymore?

Thanks any opinion is great

I found the answer on the extended service - this is something I think is lousy, only one download unless u buy extended?

Shrapnel games are like Matrix games/Slitherine used to be and still are in a lot of ways. Too expensive and don't go down in price over extended periods of time. Matixgames/Slitherine are getting a little better now that they have gone to Steam but Shrapnel and Battlefront are far behind. $40 for Spwaw is pretty high for that game ss old as it is even with improved graphics if you can call them that. I don't see much of a difference myself but I don't see much as it is anyway anymore. [:'(]

Extended download service means if you want to download the game after the initial period (no idea what that is but with DR it was ~30 days) you needed to pay extra and the extended download was around 2 years. This is based on DR who we used to use so these numbers may be way off but that's the principal. When we moved to Plimus we negotiated free download for ever for customers as part of the deal.

i was tempted to buy Spwaw (and/or maybe War Plan Pacific) when i saw there was a sale on but only $5 off a $40 game is not really much of a sale :(

I'm surprised you play games...you whine about cost (and other things)...why don't you develop a game yourself, you will see the cost and time involved!

Thanks guys for the opinions and the description of the extended service. It looks like some good games and I did buy all the Steel Panther games back in the day. They were very enjoyable.

I am amazed Shrapnel is still in business. Matrix is light years ahead. I would love to have another purveyor of wargames active. But Shrapnel has the same old stuff.

Warplan Pacific is decent (although not quite worth $35). I pre-ordered World Supremacy back in the day from the designer of Space Empires IV & V. Let's just say he's lost his edge as well as any desire to support his customers. Abandonware worth maybe $5 on Steam. I originally paid $35-$40 for it based on the designer's rep.

Really wish they would sign with a decent developer. It's been years already [:(]

100% agree with you here my Friend!

wodin -> RE: Shrapnel Games (5/18/2016 2:27:34 PM)

Their sales are pretty awful and to be honest a bit cheeky. I'd rather they not bother than have a fanfare about such a small amount off. Also the debacle of 82nd airborne still rattles me today. That could have been a superb sequel to a unique wargame. Instead they keep it advertised for god knows how long (Most likely because they took money and if they cancelled officially they may end up in a legal situation. I'm guessing here though). As Dominions went on to steam at a much better price I can't really see where they make any money these days.

BeirutDude -> RE: Shrapnel Games (7/29/2016 2:05:17 AM)

Personally, I like SPWW2 and SPMBT, but have no desire to buy anything else from them after the World Supremacy debacle. Also I bought the SPMBT CD Version and wanted to buy the SPWW2 CD (as I had enjoyed it and felt I should) and had a customer service run in that pretty much did me in. I really want to buy the SPWW2 game as I feel I owe them for the enjoyment of the free version but...

proflui -> RE: Shrapnel Games (7/29/2016 11:07:08 PM)

Their discount is so small that it is meaningless to me. But I will not say SPWW2 is not justified the price. They patch the game I believe once a year and they make sure it works in modern computer. I do not mind to buy expensive wargame. I bought WITE/WITW/WITP AE box version at full price. I bought SPWW2 at full price also. However, I do mind to buy expensive game that does not have official support anymore. I downloaded War Plan Pacific demo last night and it did not even run. How can I have confident to buy the full game?

Also, Gary Grigsby's Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich comes to my mind right away. Check this video and see how buggly it is. And check the price also. If the game is still supported I will buy it right away.

I will say SPWW2 is rather bug-free. But imho it is still not worth much, because they ruined infantry combat. I can send my infantry over open ground, not using smoke or anything, and shoot defending infantry out of their holes. Ridiculous. This isnīt possible irl, isnīt possible in SPWAW, and shouldnīt be possible in any WW2 game worth its pixels.

eugus -> RE: Shrapnel Games (9/2/2018 8:33:12 AM)

Try to do the same in SPWAW 2016 with low carnage setting and feel the difference [:)]

Raikkonen -> RE: Shrapnel Games (9/4/2018 12:33:37 PM)

Remember that Shrapnel issue an update to both SPWW2 and winSMMBT each year. Free. No charge. I just downloaded and installed this year's updates. Worked like a charm.

I agree, it's amazing that with no new games in years, they are still around. Must be VERY low overhead. Yet they still issue updates for those two games.

I wanted to buy Air Command 3.0 in the last sale, but it ended before I got back from vacation. It dropped the price from $39.95 to $24.95, so I thought it was worth a shot.

They are having a sale now through tomorrow, up to 25% off. That's a sale!

Blond_Knight -> RE: Shrapnel Games (9/4/2018 12:48:56 PM)

I always chuckle at the CRAZY, $5 off a 15 year old product sales from Shrapnel. They need more flashing gifs on their site though. And maybe some scrolling text. ;)

Caedmar -> RE: Shrapnel Games (9/9/2018 2:53:35 PM)

I appreciate Shrapnel Games for free download of Conquest Of Elysium 2, very nice TBS. And for Horse and Musket (previous titles, not this one available on Matrix Games) which should be available even now but isn't... and God knows why. And I don't like their versions of Steel Panthers, prefering more classical versions. But Shrapnel Games deserves for some bit respect because of their work with much more less known developers of ambitious games - for example, mentioned Horse and Musket or Space Empires.

Freyr Oakenshield -> RE: Shrapnel Games (9/9/2018 7:17:13 PM)

I always wait for their "sales," even if it's only 10% off. It's always a bit less to pay [:)]

Seems like you can still buy this for a hefty price. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it very unlikely to ever be finished, with the last news concerning the development popping up years ago?

rommel222 -> RE: Shrapnel Games (9/27/2018 1:14:35 PM)

Greetings to All,
I agree that Shrapnel game prices are high and using their trivial sale saves a bit. However, Shrapnel games have DEMOS so you can try to see if worth buying.
I have War Plan Pacific and Approaching Infinity, solo space adventure that reminds me of playing on my Commodore C-64 in days of yore.
Shrapnel games introduced me to Combat Command (now carried by Matrixgames) and Boku Strategy's Dragoon Battles of the 18th Century, fore runner of Matrixgames Horse & Musket Frederick the Great.
