I'm pulling my hair out over this and getting no where.

O.K. I'm back online.

First thing. You don't need this screen to run the game.
I tossed it in the trash can on the first day I owned the game.

Second thing,

Get the current game update here:
http://www.matrixgames.com/products/351/downloads/

Save the download to your desktop and run it from there.

The auto-saves are in a separate auto-save file located in your save file.

In order to run them you need to go into that auto-save file and copy an auto-save
and paste into your save file. Then it will show up on your in game load screen.
You can then run it.

I'm going to uninstall AGAIN in the morning, then try and attempt a fresh install.
My strangest happening is I'm not getting the Quick Start. So I can use any switches.
Uninstalling is very hit and miss - I will summon up energy Sunday morning for yet another attempt.

I did that but the auto save failed to load - but by that time I was getting used to it [;)]

Until tomorrow

Sorry, I forgot that you also have to rename the auto save.
It has been a long time since I've had to load an auto save.

Take the file which will have a name like this wpae014_#40_19420812.pws
And rename it to wpae014.pws.

Thanks!
It's not at all a priority for me, it was more a why!

What's getting to me is, I am so rusty with game and thus have so much to learn and yet I'm having to waste time with problems just running the game.
I hope tomorrow wil get it sorted!

***Update***

All reinstalled and looks to be fine.
Auto save loaded as per @Trugrit's excellent help.

That looks to have sorted the main stumbling blocks - now on to the game.
Ive been trying to play Buccaneer to get the hang of it all.
So back to that and many thanks to everybody for their kind help.
